I'm half czech and half slovak and I find it extra concerning how much Adela is sexualized with her being an EASTERN EUROPEAN woman specifically. Rampant sex-tourism in eastern Europe as well as the adult video industry have turned us into sexual objects purely based on our ethnicity. It's gotten to the point that I have become really hesitant to disclose I'm eastern european to men because I have been sexualized IN REAL LIFE for it.
Well yeah she has an adult concept but she doesn't market to kids( I said this not because I agree. Marketing adult concept to kids is not okay and not every adult thing need to be sexualized. Plus I said this because of the title katseye do market their self to kids and so... and she also didn't start with a cutie concept and switch to an adult one she made it very clear from the start of her career who she wanted to be)
I feel like Sex on the beat was a confession. She knows that sex sells and she is gonna do all that to be huge. I believe she is somehow comfortable with being sexy but she knows its not on her hands because if she decided to not be sexual she wouldn't be big (or probably wouldn't). She accepted her fate as a sexual symbol and she will try to take exploitation on her hands... not saying I agree or not, is just my pov of her branding
i thought i was crazy bc that's what i've always felt but i never saw anyone talk about it... i even left a comment under ain't in la mv basically saying nothing in this song requires such sexual imagery
The fact that I was expecting Nicole Kidman's MV to be Nicole's real like inspo, like her redemption scene outside the court after she divorced Tom Cruise or that iconic interview where she said "I can wear heels now". But they literally took all her reel life in which she was overly sexualized by male directors. It was literally soft po*n and her fans are bragging about women empowerment. Since when did nudity became empowering?
Sis trust me you are not being a pick me!! I, too, am tired of the constant sexualisation of female pop stars like why does everything have to be sexy?!?! And I'm 25! It may be an unpopular opinion but you're not the only one :')
9:04 for me personally, I am honestly sick of seeing every pop star on my feed being half naked and I'm not the biggest fan of adela but I have to say, SOTB was not soft *orn. The music video is so sexualized that it's almost creepy and I think that is what she was going for, to make it uncomfortable, It wasn't sexiness for the sake of gagging anyone or wanting people to desire her, it was meant to be uncomfortable not sexy.
13:04 for a song like ain't in LA, I do think the mv was unnecessarily sexual for a song that is so vulnerable and a song meant for community and representation.
Overall, I do think that ever since she signed with the label she has been leaning more into the sexier image and I just want this trend of every popstar being sexy to be over already because while yes I do absolutely agree that women should be in full control of their own sexuality, why should it be the only thing shown on screen? and besides if dancing half naked on stage is "empowering" and "powerful" then why don't the powerful rich men do it? oh right, cause it's degrading. see how the narrative flips when the gender changes, now am I saying that women shouldnt express their sexuality? absolutely not, they should be allowed to but the issue is how the industry exploits them not how they express their own sexuality.
Edit: I wish to clarify something, never once in this comment have I said that a woman cannot express her sexuality, she very much can. Write the horny songs, do provocative choreography, show off your body but we cannot call every instance of this empowerment when all the women who express themselves in such a manner are all white (or white passing) skinny women, it would be empowering if we saw plus size women, women with stretch marks or cellulite etc being this comfortable in their body but the issue is that we don't see it because while yes not all these women are catering to men, you cannot deny that men would still find that attractive (and once again I will add that it is not wrong to appeal to men as a woman). Empowerment should be empowering all women, not just the privileged ones.
Yesss so glad to finally see someone talking about it! I love her but this whole “I’m sexualizing myself to criticize the sexualization of female artists in the industry” makes no sense at all
What I don't like about oversexualization is it is messing with girls' and young women's self-esteem. These performers know that they are in the wrong but still are choosing this way to get popularity and then preach to young girls that their bodies are the only way to get subject-status. Miley, Sabrina, Katseye sell sex and then, when they earn their money, they will be crying: "Industry exploited us." Yes. The industry does it, but these pop stars are pretty willful participants because this sexual image brings them fame, money, and adoration.
Basically the sexualization of women got rebranded as empowerment, still the same people behind it and benefiting from it. After all the people choosing the choreography, clothing, marketing, lyrics and the producers are men.
THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT. I find it so sad. Especially because she is the first big international artist from Slovakia, but I feel that, despite her hard work and talent, she achieved the fame because of her oversexualided image. She doesn't feel like a new special artist from Est Europe, but another half naked girl, like so many others (Tate Mcrae, Katseye, Sabrina Carpenter etc)
the fact that the only praiseworthy time for a woman person is when she "displays her own sexuality freely and openly" and putting her nudity out there for everyone and not the private eye only in itself is SO SAD and sick. thats not freedom, thats making us a sex object and thats the only thing to get praised for? its sick.
I am waiting for the day women realize that nudity and selling sex are not empowerment, and self-objectification will never be the end of misogyny. you are just accepting it and enjoying it since you failed to end it.
Because of figures like Adéla, Katseye, Sabrina, and many, many other female artists, young girls have come to believe that the only path to success is exposing their bodies.
Girls, that is not the only way! Billie Eilish made it, Adele made it, Sia made it, and so many other female artists succeeded solely through their voices, without ever needing to expose themselves or rely on their bodies alongside their talent! Just like men do!
I felt like I was the only one who didn't buy the Adela hype train. Don't get me wrong, she can do anything she wants. But I just... don't buy that being sexed up 24/7 is her choice and that it's empowering. There's nothing empowering about thongs and heels and all those moves where she does a split. It's just not working for me. Because I don't really think it's doing what her messaging is.
To clarify, she wants to criticize the machine but she's a cog in the machine too. She has signed up with a label and taken part in the industry. She succeeds for the same methods she criticizes and even if that's her choice, I can't support that.
Edit: since so many of you refuse to understand my point, let me make it clear that I'm not even talking about her clothes. She and her fans have built up a narrative of being an underdog, that she was kicked out by hxg. But the truth is that she went back to Hybe. She's signed under Capital Records. Her actions shows that she's willing to part with her morals for quick fame. The same company where the Hybe America CEO was involvrd with the death of an idol who died of overdose. Police reports said that he had nothing to do with the death but let's not kid ourselves. Second of all, did you know that Geffen was literally in the Epstein files? Yeah, because everyone in the entertainment is part of it. And with pop stars like Adela who's ready to do anything, to even work with people like that is nothing more than the proof that people like her are enablers. Sorry if I'm not nice to those who involve themselves with a horrible world just for some fame. Sure, she's ambitious but I'm not going to praise her. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she isn't selling young girls the dream of being a star like her too, so companies like Hybe and Geffen will forever have a steady supply of innocent girls to exploit.
ADÉLA isn't better than KATSEYE, she IS katseye (just solo)
