The set decorator deserves a LOT of credit. I think the same man who decorated Margaret's apartment/condo is the same man who created the Black Magic altar that Harry finds. It was stolen during filming!

I saw this film in the theater when I was a teenager. This is the one scene that I remember in detail. In part because Charlotte Rampling is so captivating and sublime.

That last shot, with Harold Angel running desperately through the torrential rain, lost soul - one of the great images in cinema.

I’m convinced Margaret knows him from the past, so does Mama Carter. Brilliant film

After Harry gives Margaret Jonhnny’s birthday is a twinge of recognition on her face and I think at that moment she realizes what’s going on. But enjoy your take

I saw this on opening night and fell in love with Charlotte Rampling on the spot.

It seems Charlotte Rampling always plays tragic figures, like The Night Porter.
She even played a figure of Death in the UK version of Vanishing Point.

The significance of the oolong tea, imo, is that Johnny also liked it. This is why Harry asking for it is interesting to Margaret, as she believes “not many people like oolong.”

I like the Margaret character. Louis said I knew of her but I never knew her. Who got her started? Some maid some governess... everything you tell me... Etc. Ethan introduced Favorite to his daughter, because he admired Johnny's power. The relationship is so beautifully explored with hardly any contract on screen between the tow.
