The extraordinary aspect of a post Republic Legionary, was not as much martial ability, but physical ability. These suckers could quick march twenty miles in full armor, fight a battle, then build a moat and stockade to spend the night in. They could do thirty to forty miles each day normal road marching, carrying about a hundred pounds of gear, then build a bridge across a river, and their normal night fort. They would do this each day and each night. The mind boggles at the kind of physical fitness these soldiers possessed.

I love that you’re scutum shields are not all red with the exact same “wings and thunderbolts” pattern on all of them. This has definitely become the Romans “horned Viking helmet”

Its kinda eye opening how similar modern riot police with shields and batons resemble Roman Soldiers.

Very good summary. Aligns with all the well thought out fighting tactics I was already somewhat aware of. And completely contradicts the old fashioned Hollywood clanging of swords, and more recent streaming battle scenes of melee twirling and slashing.

Informative AND entertaining! Loved how you guys also implemented some basic boxing principles to the techniques shown and made it look smooth as hell. 💯

Very interesting video overall, I don't see reenactors very often fighting as realistic as in this video.

I’ve read that in a battle the actual engagement was quite short and kinda rare. It took a lot of courage even for professionals to start an attack and most parts of a battle was about morale and cohesion. A study showed that most of the casualties happened when one side fled and broke down.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE VIDEOS!!! Is great to find people taking it seriously and trying to recreate scenes in the most realistic way. I´m going to definetly watch more of your videos and I´ve already suscribed. Please keep doing this kind of work.
