His role as 'V' in V for Vendetta was awesome, to imagine someone being able to get that much feeling and acting through a fully covered face is crazy impressive.

I accepted the difference between book Elrond and movie Elrond because Hugo's Elrond was definitely warm towards the hobbits, as he was in the books. He looks extremely pleased when Frodo recovers from his Nazgul related injury and was kind to Bilbo in the first Hobbit movie.

Welcome to Rivendell Mr. Anderson.

V for Vendetta, Red Skull, Elrond, Agent Smith, countless great voices, so many of my favorite movies/characters that I for so long did not realize was the same actor.

Hugo Weaving is without a doubt one of the greatest actors of our time, possibly even of all time.

The first time me and my friends all watched the extended editions back to back we developed one of our favorite inside jokes because of Elrond. It started when frodo is waking up and sees the ethereal elrond, me and my best friend simultaneously shouted “Hugo Weaving!?!?” And by the end of the trilogy every single time he appeared on screen the entire group would exclaim his name with shock and enthusiasm. It has gotten to the point we react that way every time we see Hugo Weaving in anything 😂. Good times

He had this aura of ageless maturity that is true of an Elven lord like Elrond. A true legend of an actor!

I'd like to point out for Elrond's character that beside losing his brother because he choose the fates of Men, his wife Celebrían was captured and tortured by orcs. Although she was rescued and her wounds were healed, she still carried psychological trauma from the torture and the only way for those scars to heal was to go to Valinor, which meant she and Elrond had to be separated for hundreds of years (they were reunited when Elrond went to Valinor after Sauron's defeat, though). Because of Elrond's awareness that any half-elf who choses to become a mortal will mean they'll eventually die, like Elros did, it is understandable why Elrond's character in the movies was changed to wanting Arwen to go Valinor, rather than staying with Aragorn and eventually die, as he'll never see her again.

Imagine how good a movie(trilogy) must have been, if 25 years later, we get a series of mini biography each 20 minutes long and thousands upon thousands of people watch that!

It's an interesting co text for Elrond. His brother chose to be human and founded the line that would give us Aragorn. When his daughter makes the same choice he's going through it again.

The actor playing Elrond has to pull off a weight of regret that's really difficult to imagine. When he's talking about the weakness of Men he's not just talking about the ring. He's talking about the descendants of his brother. The ones that embraced Sauron. Who betrayed the choice of his brother to be a Man and attempted to claim the gift of Elves by force. The fall of the northern kingdom. In the movie, when Aragorn talks about the weakness in him, you have to realize he's the most recent product of the choice of Elrond's brother to be human. Which Elrond himself likely considers the original weakness of Elros given how it played out.

W Hugo Weaving not watching Rings of Power because he knows they don't take the works serious.

I understand glossing over his early roles, but I was surprised at no mention of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, which put him on the world stage.

Hugo Weaving is one of those actors who is so completely fluid and adaptable that I am surprised he has not been nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar). One of a more notable performance which I have not seen mentioned in the comment section, was his role in The Dressmaker (2015) with Kate Winslet. If you have not seen this movie, I suggest you watch it.

Can’t express just how much I love your content. I’ve been listening to you on Spotify as I sleep and often drift off with thoughts of elves and woodland.

@pamelayoung27 1 day ago

Hugo should have gotten a nomination for his role as father of Dessmon Doss in Hacksaw Ridge...incredible performance!!!

@thelasthomelyhouse 1 day ago

Now he is Frank Harkenss in Slow Horses and absolutely terrifying!

@cameronharmon3843 1 day ago

Can’t wait to see you continue this series. I think the remaining characters to cover are Arwen, Faramir, and Wormtongue and then you could end by doing Ian Holm and Martin Freeman as two iconic portrayals of Bilbo at different points in time

14:45 At least John Rhys-Davies didn't have to put on Treebeard prosthetics . . . Ents were one of the most appropriate uses of (kinda early?) CGI ever. Actually still looks pretty good by even today's standards.
