An economist called Mark Blyth wrote a book in 2013 'Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea'. Many other economists have been talking about the upward wealth transfer for many years. It started in the UK with neoliberalism in the late 70s. A bit earlier in the US. The 08 crash and Covid put it on steroids.

It's gone from being a future problem, to very much a now problem since 2008. Normal people are feeling the real tangible effects of a highly unequal society. A few extremely rich billionaires and trillionaires are becoming the owners of everything. Their wealth and power is undermining democracy. We will reach a tipping point, when our democratic systems all stop even trying to serve the will of the people. That point is not far away.

Good stuff Talal and Alexei. I find the little snippets of info Alexei slips out casually fascinating. Credit to you Talal. Both he (Alexei) and Rik Mayall are important icons in 80/90's British humour.

"Remember kids, you can't fly! Not usless you drink an awful lot of Tia Maria" - Alexei Sayle. Always remembered that line from his tv show in the 80's/90's. Brilliant time for comedy.

Two 1981 Alexei Sayle credits are missing from your chronology - 'Celebration: The Alexei Sayle Hour' (ITV/ Granada Tx: 23 July 1981) and 'Fundamental Frolics' (BBC Tx: 31 July 1981).

And in today's episode our host disses Rik Mayall who actually wasn't as good as we all remember because no one, absolutely no one, is allowed to be better than Alexei.
