This is one of those movies I did not care for. It's not bad, it's just not something I love. But hey, at least it's a more faithful adaptation of the book.

0:56 dude's complaining about seeing chocolate being made in a film that literally has CHOCOLATE FACTORY in the title

13:34 between the gripes about the grandparents' bed, the gripes about the first song, and now this, I'm starting to get the sense that Jeremy never read the original book

1:53 That's actually a thing that happens a lot in this movie. It seems like a large part of the creative drive behind this movie was faithfully adapting the book in ways the original film wasn't as concerned with.

No one can call this movie's music bad

11:37, also, it’s explained in the book, he did not hire them through legal channels.

You gave them 27 sins for sinning Christopher Lee, and I must say, that wasn't enough.

Augustus was actually mutilated in the end. "Stop eating your fingers" "But I taste so good!"
Insinuating he's not coated in chocolate, he IS chocolate now.

point still stands that Willy was living by FAFO and didn't plan any the punishments.

Also, adding to the whipped cream part: The factory wouldn't have been shut down, even if Willy Wonka was reported to the authorities for it. Just look at the milk industry and how they treat their cows. It's far worse than what this movie shows, that's for sure

Can we expand the books don't matter rule to also say that previous film adaptations don't matter?

I feel that less people would hate this movie if it were a shot-for-shot remake of the 1971 version.

As ive grown up, I've begun to really dislike the "credits too long" sin because now nobody can sit through anything 😭 some credits are too long, but for the most part, anything under like, 40 seconds is tolerable.

But i also think CS has never really watched and reflected on these movies at all since its inception.

Fun fact: the songs in this movie had their lyrics lifted from the book almost 1 to 1

Favorite sin was "that was almost word for word what I say whenever I do a 20 min. video."

@matityaloran9157 4 months ago

15:51, my response to that is that I’m not looking for realism in a movie about a man with an elevator that can go to space. (In Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka uses his elevator to go to space.)

I remember being absolutely terrified by this movie when I was 10 and my Spanish class watched it, but dear Lord CinemaSins ushered in this new, concentrated hatred of art that just permeates everything now.

Also, Wonka may have hired those people before he said his big chocolatey F.U. to humanity.

Anyway, between this one and the 1971 or, like, the play, I'm gonna have to go with Gene's.

And one more thing: Deep Roy's Oompa Loompas are the first thing that comes to mind when I hear about this version of Willy Wonka specifically.

Matpat did this for the Gene Wilder version, considering he used OSHA’s standards to do so, making the theory that THAT movie takes place in the early seventies when OSHA was being discussed and ratified.

To add to your point at 4:22, if you listen closely to the Quidditch scene in Chamber of Secrets, I think you could hear a theme from Attack of the Clones. And that’s cause Williams was working on both films around the same time, so you’re absolutely right, composers do indeed sometimes reuse their scores, and in some cases, may accidentally slip one into a different film than the one they were originally doing like what happened with Chamber and Clones.

And i absolutely agree: books matter, cause you’re right, half the films in the world we have are cause of books.
