not gonna lie man I'm a 42 year old guy and that ending made me cry

The quote “not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere” is literally one of my favourite quotes and has definitely inspired me personally as an upcoming digital artist.

Another thing most people dont notice at the end of the film is you can see Ego has put on a little weight. His cheeks are fuller and even has a small little tummy showing, Remi taught him to love food again

It's very sad that Pixar has stated that they intend to stick to building out what they have already made, rather than continuing to be new and experimental.

Ego's speech/review is so good it sounds like it was wrote by william shakespear

I feel Ego is the character who started the new trope of “the high profile critic who is tired of the same old high-end hoity-toity stuff.” They’re super critical of the stuff their critiques lead to, so when they have their first grounded meal from a protagonist, they love it despite the predictions that they’re too high-profile for a simple “spaghetti dish”.

You left out the voice of Anton Ego, the great Peter O'Toole. He brought Anton to life. Of all the movies in the last 30 years, Ratatouille is a real standout, a high-water mark for Pixar. It saddens me to no end that most of what is made in Hollywood these days is utter garbage. Being old now, I can always look back on a time when it was not so.

The way Anton Ego was portrayed at the start of the movie, you'd have thought he was being set up as the big bad who needed to be vanquished by Remy. Instead he turned out to be just a guy always searching for the best dish a talented chef can create. And he found it in a simple peasant dish that was cooked to perfection by Remy and he ate that dish with gusto and a smile on his face. His entire demeanor changed from a dour man to somebody who has found the zest in his life. That is why he decided to champion Remy as a great chef. As a result he lost his job and credibility as a food critic yet he found happiness as an investor and patron of Remy's small bistro. And he was voiced perfectly by the late great Peter O'Toole.

The ending montage made me shed a tear

I think the best thing about ego in Ratatouille is that he is not the villain he is the goal. He's definitely not a vindictive person he just wants some damn good food. The real villain was the guy trying to market gusteau's name post mortem and effectively coast of the legacy of his dead mentor

One of the subtle things that shows Anton Ego's flawed perspective is one that most people wouldn't catch. Ego compares Gusteau to Chef Boyardee in a mocking way, clearly referencing how they both have microwaveable food brands named after them. Only, the real-life Chef Boyardee:

1) Had a prestigious job as head chef in a luxury hotel's restaurant
2) Created a canned food product that kept millions of troops fed during WWII
3) Received the Medal of Freedom for his work feeding soldiers during the war, which is the highest honor a civilian can receive
4) When demand for his products fell after the war, sold the majority of shares in his own company rather than decrease production, just so he wouldn't have to layoff his workers.

With all of that context, being compared to Chef Boyardee sounds like a pretty high compliment.

But Anton Ego doesn't see that because he doesn't know the history. He just sees the mascot of a canned food brand and looks down on it because it doesn't match his idea of a "real" chef, without looking any deeper into it. Similarly, he looks down on Gusteau's motto "Anyone Can Cook" while misunderstanding the meaning behind it. It's not until he mets Remy, the living embodiment of Gusteau's model, does he understand the true message.

I see the irony here. A great video can come from anywhere but not everyone can make a great video. Loved the video, very well edited.

Ego might not be the hero, but the damsel in distress, rescued from being caught in criticism to enjoying life again.

He didn't judge food baseless. He probably has his own very high standard for good food. That's the reason Gustau restaurant got shutting down. He didn't even try to argue if the food being cook by rat which that makes he actually a real food critic

His flashback scenes makes me cry to this day. It's one of those moments only pixar could ever create. I hope they get back to this type of storytelling.

As someone who recently watch Ratatouille, Anton Ego's presence reminds me a lot of Death from Puss and Boots. Booth had low screen time and werent the main antagonist, but both stood out the most as the largest threat and boths presences put our heroes in a dilemma that could only be solved by them being themselves (for puss a hero whose brave, for Remi a Cook whose would stand up for his food)

I know people don’t want a ratatouille sequel but I personally would love to see a prequel of egos life.

Ego really fits Steve Jobs and i wouldnt be suprised if he is based off of him. They have their faults, their egos, and they will criticize and put you down to the ground. But when it comes to risking themselves into protecting and developing new talent, they shine the brightest.
