As a Federation Grunt I approve this message.

The Gm line is truly the Sherman of the Federation

Man I love the GM Type C and the GM Custom.

I always hated that the GM Custom and GM Cannon II got so much disrespect.

The GM series was constructed at three different bases during the one year war. Jaburo, Luna II, and Augusta base.

Luna II developed the [E] early type based on data from the Gundam the White Base dropped off on the way to Jaburo. The RGM-79C was the end result of this program.

Jaburo in the meantime worked on the [G] which is still very much a prototype produced in limited numbers until the White Base arrived at Jaburo with its combat data and kickstarted the standard RGM-79 production line of which the Sniper Custom, Nightstalker, Spartan, Striker, Guard, Light Armor, and RGC-80 GM Cannon variants were spun off of.

The gundam combat data eas then transfered to Augusta Base where development of the sucessor to the RX-78-2 began resulting in the RX-78NT Alex, and short runs of high performance highly specialized GMs like the Cold Districts, GM Command, and Sniper II. The later is unrelated to the Sniper Custom.

Post war Augusta, Luna II, and Jaburo continued their separate production runs as the Federation increased their military budget to rebuild resulting in things like the GM Custom, Desert GM, and GM Cannon II.

This ended with Operation Stardust and the Earth Federation actually cutting it's conventional military budget in favor of focusing on the specialized Titans peacekeeping force. A lot of soldiers were forced into retirement, furloughed, or demoted into lesser jobs while outside the Titans own production plants the various other production lines were shutdown and retooled to produce a single mass production type the RMS-179 GM II. Any standard GM that could be upgraded to the GM II was, while the non standard ones were relegated to second line duty like guarding Jaburo. Plans for the various specialized GMs were sold off to Anaheim Electronics and the like which resulted in them adopting the Sniper II's backpack for the MSA-003 Nemo.

The Titans actually had two different Quels. An early and a late type. The early type is the one seen on the flatbed at the end of 0083 and combines Type C and N models with the Quel. The late model is the standard Quel we see in Advance of Zeta. The Quel eventually led to the development of the Barzam.

That's pretty all I can remember off the top of my head from the various manga, kit manuals, and MSV books I've read.

"Remarkable for being completely unremarkable"   i think that was the reason i've always been drawn to this suit, it also explains me.

Hence Quel. As in "Quell," like "quelling unrest" Quell.

The GM Quel has to be one of the better looking ones of the bunch, the titans colors gave it so much aura

I wish they could of stuck around with the powered GM. With the way ZZ gundam was shaping, with heavy beam weapons and bulky mobile suits, it would of fit right in.

The GM custom is so badass it's permitted to actually kill enemies on screen. A unjustly rare honor.

You have to wonder what would have happened if the Federation had bite the bullet and put the GM Custom into mass production.

GM High Boost, GM Raid, GM Spartan, GM Guard Custom, GM Striker, and many more to come, can't wait for next part....

That GM Quel in EFF space colors is pretty nice looking.  It really is a shame the unit is in that awkward void of being a retconned machine in between the 0083 OVA and Zeta Gundam.

The GM Cannon2 with its heavier armor and firepower, was the Only thing that kept Keith alive.

To me the GM Kai should have had a pilot that said the Ramba Ral line. "This is no GM, boy. NO GM!" 😂

The RGM-79C/E is probably one of my favourite GMs aesthetically. It's a toss up between that one, the GM command, and the GM command light armour

GM master race

"Remarkable for being unremarkable" was a mistranslation. The original statement was smthg like "It has no obvious weakness"

You have quickly  became one of my favorites! I love my GM bois! ! Hope to see the GM dominance or the gaurd/intercept customs!

It has never been explicitly stated in any official material what "GM" is an abbreviation of. According to Gundam Sentinel 0079, "GM" is an abbreviation of "Gundam type Mass-production model", while the manual of Master Grade GM version 2.0 suggested that "GM" stood for either "General Mobile-suit" or "Gundam Model".
