Every time I watch a re-do on Magnolia I am disappointed. People take a beautiful old house and turn it into Hobby Lobby.

The second I saw them painting all that natural wood I knew this was going to be a hot mess…

Great bones and beautiful home, but this design did not do it justice. I live in New Orleans and work in this field, and love to restore historical homes while also making them more functional. I feel like this house needed more care and consideration. The biggest fault I see is the small scale and lack of detail of the interior casing and moulding. No crown either. There are so many historical resources in New Orleans and it’s important to take the time to study and implement them. Historical millwork for example, takes a home from builder grade to timeless. I do love the reuse of the wood for the kitchen island, and the local Palm Orleans wallpaper in the bath.

The pale blue porch ceiling color is called 'Haint Blue' in the South. Traditional ceiling to ward off evil spirits.

The kitchen falls short.

I'm from Louisiana so I was excited to watch this one but was super disappointed. I wasn't impressed with anything done to this home.

The "entire city" did not go underwater during Katrina. That is not a "farmhouse." That is not a "creole cottage" at the rear of the main house, it is a very typical kitchen "wing."

Island height is too high,it seems like bar height. The orange office? To each its own.

I love the beautifully refinished barge board on the island, although I don’t understand the added height.

This color pallet is more coastal (physical east coast) and not what I think at all when I think NOLA. And immediately throw out that Tang orange office. Had so much potential to be stunning and missed the mark.

I’m disappointed that they modernized a classic house. The bathroom black and white wallpaper and floor does not match the style of the home and the orange with the tropical style was a disappointment. The outside of the house looks nice at least

This looks like a house on a Florida coast. None of this says NOLA to me

This restoration was beautiful, but I wonder who would live here? The neighborhood still looks like it needs some love

If you want to gloat about historical integrity then you have to put in crown molding. First thing I noticed as a nola native.
Second thing I noticed was no storage in the kitchen! Now that’s a sin even worse than changing the porch paint - open shelving was a fleeting trend used by people trying to save some money. That is over btw! Give us back our storage! 😂😂

I was stationed at the Naval Station in Algiers in the late 1970's. I loved the area, the people, the music, and, the food. I grew up in an old Italianate style home in the Midwest. I really enjoyed just driving around looking at all the different kinds of houses.
Great job!!

That is an incredibly impressive amount of work to do in six months! It looks great!

The “pale blue” on the porch ceilings is called haint blue, it’s to protect the house from haints (spirits)

Stove under a window no way.

The first house my daughter and her partner had was actually constructed from huge boards sourced from salvaged wooden railway freight cars. My husband and I helped, but every exterior was an adventure.
