I learned a lot from the way you started by allowing yourself to be taken away and then claiming you had the plague. I was wondering where the merchant's pass was and was surprised it was in the guard house at the very start.
Interesting that you chose Clock Street. I've been working on an "optimal" solution for the Tin Man Games port, and think Key Street is the most beneficial, risk free route, as every hazard is avoidable, plus you get the elven boots (+1 skill), and the two scorpion brooches (gold for +1 luck and silver for +1 stamina after every battle).
You don't get the fire ring, but the Leaf Beast battle is easy. The winged helmet is for all intents and purposes, the same as the elven boots. I'd even recommend not giving the thieves on that route 10 gold and taking their arrow fire, as there are plenty of chances to heal, and it'll mean you can afford the chainmail armour later.
There could be minor differences between this and the TMG port though, there often are. In the TMG version the innkeeper at the start of the game is an old woman, not a man, for some reason.
I'm still yet to watch the rest of this so will be interesting to see how it plays out.
I had another crack at this the other day after many years! I dug out my FF books and have been reading through them again. Hags hair was the only item I didn't pick up and failed, after leaving the city it was too dangerous to re-enter as I'd killed the two troll guards. I remember you have to enter the sewers to find the hag. I'll have another go and explore the city a bit more. Btw your comments on cowardice really made me laugh ! !:D
House of hell was very good also. There were a few weak ones. Some forgettable ones like you'd expect. But some absolute classics! This was one. Deathtrap Dungeon. Creature of havoc. There were also some spin offs from Steve Jackson, four I think, though I can't remember their titles.
Ah, very nice! This one was always one of my favorites. An unrelated question: would you ever consider trying a blind playthrough of a FF (or related) gamebook? I know that it's not your style, but I think it could make for a fun change of pace.
A classic that must be made into a movie, I think they tried to or sold the rights to it and maybe Deathtrap Dungeon also. Films I want to see b4 I die ! the artwork on this version is much better than the horrible artwork on the new book.
