This study, you see. Studying doesn't happen if you make it easy. Studying doesn't happen if you give benefits. That's how I've studied, too. Throughout my life, I have never been better off than others, nor have I received any special benefits. I have always hit rock bottom. I was given just enough to eat and study. That is how I have been, how I live now, and how I teach the students who visit us here.

That is why I never waste anything. Why? What does it mean not to waste? It means I don't spend anything for myself. Because I don't spend anything for myself, I don't know the concept of waste. I also don't know the concept of "mine." That is why everything is precious. I always say this when I was studying. I never had more than 10,000 won in my pocket. I never ran out of money. But I never exceeded 10,000 won. When I ran out of food, I would get just enough rice, side dishes, and seaweed to survive; once that ran out, only that amount would come back. I realized that it doesn't work out just because I get greedy. That is why I lived this way while studying, and even though I have been here until now, I haven't deviated from that lifestyle even a little. So, I try my best not to burden the disciples studying here, but given the current circumstances, that is not possible.

That is why I do not want to teach my disciples in a way that leads to prejudice, favoritism, or bias toward anyone, nor have I taught them that way. Because I lived that way myself, I tried to provide them with better conditions for their studies than I did, but it turned out that wasn't the case. I didn't give them special privileges or offer them conveniences just because I wanted to; I gave them because the situation turned out that way. There are disciples who studied more easily than others. But did those disciples who studied easily actually gain that much knowledge? No. A strange phenomenon occurred where they were filled only with their own thoughts and greed, so they could not see beyond that. It was that way of thinking—holding only what was theirs and refusing to let go of what was theirs.

Study is something given according to one's capacity. You study according to your capacity, just as much as is given to you. You must not blame your given reality. Do you think things will improve just by blaming it? That is the reality you have been given. Up until now, I have practically been wandering from sacred to famous mountains. Wherever that place was—whether it was the grounds of a market, next to a junk shop, or next to a factory—but if that was the place I was given, I studied in a way that suited the environment. Even in the quietest and most serene times, amidst the clattering, jingling, and rattling sounds, I studied right next to those places. And just when I thought it was quiet, I would hear that strange noise from far away: "Everyone, today Yeonggwang Galbi has arrived from Yeonggwang-eup, Yeonggwang-gun, so please buy some ribs!" And after that, "Buy eggs! Eggs!" And after that, shouting that a fishmonger had arrived. I studied in places like that for about a year or two. Even if I wanted to move elsewhere, given my given reality and circumstances, there was nothing that allowed me to do so.

So, I used to think this way. “If this is also my study, and if everything is happening here to teach me, then I will absorb all of it with my own body and study.” Because there is something to teach me and something for me to receive and realize, that is why such a phenomenon occurred in that place. Do not blame your environment, and do not blame the reality given to you. Since that is my study, you must not forget the very nature of that study.

Studying under favorable conditions. Ah, there are such people. Who are these people? They are those who run their own businesses or have stable jobs in society; they are the ones who visit the temple grounds with leisure, whether once or twice a month on Saturdays, Sundays, or Fridays.

However, there are those who have been targeted. Those in the earthly realm who are facing economic hardship, material struggles, and whose human relationships have hit rock bottom. For such people, would an environment and conditions for studying really be easily provided? Mother Nature made it this way, so why must I live a life driven into such a corner, causing you to hit rock bottom? I pushed you to this point and set you a...
