"Enter the rabbit hole" with Balthier on the front is wild work

I’ve always adored this game, it handled multi-party member combat in real time better than any game since. The gambit system was genius and needs to be iterated upon by someone.

Personally, I think the Gambit system is one of the best ways ever created to handle real-time party combat.  It was simple and very easy to understand if you spent even a few minutes playing with it.  The only thing they should have changed is, they should have given a more complete list of gambits after the initial gambit tutorial.  FF12 was just ahead of it's time, if this system was released today... it would be groundbreaking.  It isn't going to work for everyone, but FF isn't a game for everyone anyway and trying to make it that way is what's destroying the series.  Trying to make a game everyone likes is simply impossible.

This is my favorite Final Fantasy because it was so unique when I played it as a child. Going back last year and playing it, it made me appreciate it even more.

When this game first came out I was in my late teens and had thousands of hours in FFX. I didn't get on with this gane. I came back to it a few years later and couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. My growing up made me care more about the story and the gambit system was amazing once I actually understood it.

I never understood why people have such a problem with the gambits' system. It doesn't overwrite the necessity of making smart decisions with your gameplan, it just does the heavy lifting of selecting the choices. It effectively eliminates the monotonous aspect of mashing the attack option over and over for simple battles, or making obvious decisions that require zero dexterity anyway, such as using the right healing spell when you acquire that status effect.
The gambits system only allows you to program characters up to what you could very well do by yourself.
It puts even further emphasis on strategical aspect instead of pressing trivial buttons endlessly.

I am so happy to see the comment section shower the game with so much love and praise. This is also my favorite FF game and I'm glad to see so many people agree! 😊

12 is probably the most amazing proof of concept for what final fantasy would evolve into, and I really do mean that in the best possible way

Hands down was incredible to play this when it came out. I was pretty young when I picked up Tactics so when I was a teenager and this came out I feel in love immediately. This game took old school elements and brought them into the future. Making the atb system work on the field and not having to load a new scene for each battle was next level. The world felt like it had some life to it unlike a lot of the games before. There is so much hidden in this game for you to discover and that just felt amazing at the time in my life when it came out.

My favorite FF after 10. I kind of wish you could have more than 3 party member(not counting guests) in combat, it might have made the gambit system shine even more. I mainly used it for healing spells and item use

FF12 remains in my top 3 mainline FFs right beside 6 and 9, though FFT is my favorite above all

It's the game where you have to do everything to do everything.
Joking aside when this game came out, since I was going to school, it took me an entire year to complete the entire game with the guide. And it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I ever had.
And then I came back when they droppes the international version and try to fight the five judge magisters only to realize each one of them immediately heal you through reverse. Killing you. The only enemy in the game that could do that. Needless to say, just getting to the fight alone is a nightmare but trying to beat them without realizing that sucks.

I actually liked the Gambit system, but I completely understand why others don't and I won't try to defend it like that. Like lots of other things, it's just not for everybody. And that's ok. I would like to see it again, though. I haven't played Unicorn Overload, looks interesting! FFXII was a game with a divided fan base. You love it or hate it, there's not much in between.

Whether it's loved or hated, I miss this time. Back in those days devs still tried new things. Both this and The Last Remnant are perfect examples. While neither are perfect, they both tried something new and interesting, though ultimately had a divided reception. I would love to see these ideas continue to grow and evolve instead of the copy/paste a lot of games have these days just because they're popular.

Crazy how I’m going for a platinum 7 years after getting this game and then I get this in my recommended

funny enough, as I aged this has become my favourite FF title

12 is close to being my favourite. Loved the world, the art style, the music, the different races, the towns and cities, the sprawling deserts and environments, the hunt quests. Great game.

Man, “why” is the definite question here. But you answered it yourself in the conclusion. And even though I appreciate your point of views and reservations towards this game, it ultimately boils down to “I wanted this”, “why they didn’t do that”, “i would’ve done this, this way and that, that way”. It is impossible to NOT have expectations, but what most reviewers (I’ve seen it way too much, especially on youtube) confuse expectations with whims. Its understandable to expect a FF game to live up to, say FFX, but if that game doesn’t reach those expectations (very difficult considering how high FFX set the bar, IMO) it doesn’t mean the game is a failure. However, having a mindset of “this game should have X type of story, and I would like the gameplay to be Y, and characters shouldn’t do this” is a sure way to dislike pretty much everything that won’t comply with those whims. Take it for what it is and you’ll see what an absolute gem this game is. Or maybe not, I mean, if you don’t like it, you din’t like it, and thats perfectly fair. But the reasons for why not shouldn’t be “they should’ve/I would’ve”. Tell me the plot hole that completely ruined it for you. Tell me why, according to you, the story and pace comes to a halt after the twins reveal. Tell me why there is a perfectly viable way to play this game just like the old ones (menu based/turn based), and completely remove the need of the gambit system (and its hands off approach to combat), but you never used it or mentioned it. Speaking of which, whats so bad about a hands off approach to regular mobs? I mean, do you prefer to have to smash de X button for every weak encounter? And therein lies my criticism; maybe you do prefer to smash the X for regular mobs (fair enough), but is something bad because its different or not what you expected? Idk man. Entertaining video, for sure, so props for that. But ultimately disappointing in the sense that it was an hour of “I would’ve done this instead of that, and for that, its garbage”.

I'm Canadian, but the thought of an unidentified person claiming to be enforcement actually makes the idea of being armed make sense? That's scary

The psp date set and sfx was a funny and nice touch 1 min in. Subbed. Can't wait to watch this whole thing fr

My favorite gf game to this day. Truly a highlight of its era glad it’s getting more exposure. The zodiac age is definitely an improvement by a very large margin. The hyperbolic time chamber reference 😭😭
