Lad who works with me reckons I'm touched, but I pull the front off the car first -  leaves you easier access & isn't much of a task.  Not saying that's the way to go, but I hate faffing about with crap access to stuff & prefer yanking anything that can be yanked that gives me more room, even if it takes longer. Getting too old for poking about in tight corners.

I've another 12 reg one sitting outside to do & I'm strongly considering pulling the whole motor out & doing it on the bench - will see how frisky I feel when going at it. Weighing up how much longer yanking it (2 hours or so) will be compared to trying to feck about with it in the car - plus I'm not so sure the owner didn't toast the crank bearings/more stuff while toasting the head. Least if its out I can poke all the bits I like & decide if the heads worth doing or a replacement makes more sense.

We have a similar issue on our TwinAir, it hasn’t overheated but has slowly become more difficult to fire up despite cranking fine.
At the point of combustion it dies, and it pressurises into the cooling system. Reeks of fuel in the expansion tank and it hisses once you undo the cap.
I know the gaskets gone but don’t know if it’s worse than just the gasket

The procedure and data sheet at the end of the video is this generally available ?  A great informative video which will help enormously.

Just came across your great video while I'm diagnosing my 2009 Panda 1.2 overheating problems (similar engine to the video). Wondering if you can help. I idle the car for 30 mins, the fan comes on, and the temp gauge seems ok at normal. There are gentle bubbles from the expansion tank, which I take as bleeding the system. Then I switch the engine off after 30 mins, and at the same time as switching the ignition off, it throws out a bunch of coolant from the expansion tank; the temp gauge is still at normal. So the question is, is this pressure the combustion gases proving that there's a head gasket problem? Or is it air blocking the system, or is the radiator semi-blocked? Would much appreciate any help. Cheers

Think my 2013 Fiat Abarth blew a head gasket now cylinder 2 isn't firing at all which coincides with the lose of power and very rough running. Started after a white puff a smoke today this was after starting from a red light car was warmed up. It has been burning up oil and been seeing white puffs and some people have said blueish as well on startups off an on for a while now. Blah though no signs of coolant in the oil didn't think to check the coolant overflow for exhaust fumes though..

Is it normal to have some loud noise at first and it would need some idle or it should be smooth since the beginning ?
