The reason Cooper couldnt send messages back is because the ship simply couldnt fit high-powered antennas strong enough to send a signal the billions of kilometers (not to mention the gravitational strength and compression that a hypothetical signal would have to endure while going through a wormhole) required for transmission. On earth we have access to large arrays and radio telescopes that can easily send information with a powerful enough signal strength to be recieved from that distance.

If you read the book "Science of Interstellar", Cooper literally uses an intermediate mass black hole to decelerate from a third of the speed of light (10,000 km/s btw) to a speed slow enough to rendevous millers planet (around a few kilometers a second). This makes him, quite possibly, the greatest pilot in human history within Interstellars universe. Incredible video regardless, super funny.
