I used to spend a great deal of time immersed in political discussions on YouTube, following the endless conflicts between ideologies, parties, movements, and factions. But over time, I became increasingly disillusioned with politics and with the possibility of meaningful historical progress. My readings of thinkers such as Schopenhauer and Foucault have led me to question many of the assumptions we take for granted about power, morality, progress, and civilization itself.
I’ve gradually reached the pessimistic conclusion that many of humanity’s deepest problems may not be temporary political problems that can simply be solved through reforms or changes in government. They may be rooted much deeper in human nature, desire, power, domination, and the structures through which human beings organize society. Perhaps what we call “progress” is often nothing more than another stage in the same endless cycle of suffering, conflict, domination, and destruction.
I don’t necessarily believe that humanity is moving toward some enlightened future. I sometimes see civilization as a species constructing increasingly sophisticated systems while remaining trapped in the same ancient impulses that have always driven it. Technology advances, political systems change, ideologies rise and fall—but the underlying human condition remains painfully familiar.
That is one reason I’ve become increasingly detached from the political world and much more fascinated by science fiction. Stories about the cosmos, extraterrestrial civilizations, artificial intelligence, alien worlds, and the possibility of non-human forms of intelligence allow me to explore possibilities beyond the narrow boundaries of ordinary human existence.
In a strange way, I find AI-generated alien sci-fi films and stories about deep space more intellectually stimulating than the daily spectacle of human politics. Politics often feels like watching the same tragedy being performed repeatedly with different actors and different slogans. Science fiction, by contrast, allows the imagination to escape the human cage for a while and contemplate something radically different—perhaps even a universe in which humanity is no longer at the center of the story.
