You nailed regarding Chinatown and Riverside and tripped when you said “Sukhumvit Road - Asoke”.
If someone wants to experience the modern side, more sophisticated, and the nightlife of Bangkok, they should stay either in Thong Lor or Sukhumvit Soi 24 (Phrom Phong).

That's right explore the city yourself just don't get conned you get that in all countries if your a fast talker and your been around, you know the score

Sala Daeng is one of the best areas to stay in Bangkok.  It’s right in the heart of Silom, so you get great transport links with the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway, and it’s close to Lumpini Park, shopping malls, and plenty of restaurants.  For anyone wanting a central, convenient base with lots of dining and activity options, it’s an excellent choice.

On the other hand, some areas are less ideal.  Khao San Road is very lively but not relaxing, with constant noise and tricky traffic.  Families might also want to avoid the red-light districts like Patpong and Nana Plaza, as well as the crowded, industrial Khlong Toei area.

Everyone I stay hotel on soi 11.   Lively sitting on sidewalk or visit clubs.  Also stay place center point great spacious central world and go walking near by to Lumpini park.  Ibis styles #4 good.  La petite hotel do 11 good and go breakfast buffet in morning across street.

or just stay around sathon and you will be in the middel of it all and have easy acces to the mrt and bts

I prefer Nonthaburi, skytrain goes there  as well. However, two decades here, I'm not really a tourist and try to avoid them 🤣

NO! Do not lock yourself into 3 areas. Go explore every part of Bangkok even if it's packed with tourists. It's all about experience

If your a tourist fine but not if you live here, Soi 11 best days are gone it's too touristy ,the heart of Soi 11 is gone.

I stayed in the Chatrium riverside hotel. Beautiful hotel but such a boring area! I also stayed in the Khao San district but on Rambuttri street which is a lovely street full of character and cheap bars compared to the rest of BKK. Sukhumvit has so much to offer though but is quite expensive unfortunately.
