At that time of the kissing of the hand, Churchill realized exactly how powerful this woman was. Even though I’m an American, I miss her.

In truth there’s more Germanic blood in the British Royal family than any other ancestry.

To be fair, she's not even purely Celtic royalty at all. Her father's family royal name was originally German, Saxe-Coburg Gotha clan. But they changed it during WWI to avoid national revolution, and keep divine admiration of royalty. Queen Victoria is also of German descent, so is her husband, Albert. Same with her grandmother, Queen Mary of Teck, meaning she's the daughter of the "Herzog von Teck" or Duke of Teck, which is a head royal-castle located in Württemberg, Germany. The royal family is mostly Germanic, not Celtic like those of the Scots, Irish, Welsh, and Northern France

political suicide keeping German names at that time … Churchill has a point

Queen Victoria was of the House of Hanover but adopted her husband's name , Saxe Cogurg Gotha, upon her marriage to Prince Albert. It seems to me that Elizabeth II had a powerful precedent on her side.

I find it so interesting that despite being Monarch (albeit Constitutional Monarch), and Royalty, the Royal Family is so incredibly hide-bound by all these rules and traditions governing where they live, who can work for them, what they can and can't do, and what Isn't Done, or what Has Always Been Done.  True power over their lives doesn't rest with the Family itself, it feels like, but rather with the people who purportedly work for them.  In reality, the Family works for all those nameless, faceless people inside the palace walls.  I understand now why Meghan and Harry in their (admittedly indiscreet) interviews with Oprah referred more to the Corporation than to family members.  Maybe the issues with racism weren't from the family themselves, but from the people who run their lives.  And because Meghan was outside of Tradition, she was met with resistance at every turn as much as the Queen having to fight to live where she wanted to live where she wanted to live, or when she and her husband couldn't even have a say in their own personal secretary after the passing of her father.

Claire Foy was an excellent Adore Belle Dearheart!

People who focus so much on the German Royal bloodlines need to recall that every one of them had links to the English bloodline. For centuries European Royalty were in some distant way related. from Anglo-Saxon times even. Its just get real.

If you want Clarence House to be 'private', then don't meet with the Prime Minister at Clarence House. Make the commute to Buckingham Palace, and return 'home' at the end of the business day.

The crown has "rebranded" itself many times.  You can see how H and M thought it was not big deal for them to do so.

and her real name is Saxe-Coburg-Gotha

Diana had more noble blood than the royal family had royal . Let that sink in.

Imagine the indignity of having to kiss another person’s hand or ring. Glad I’m an American!

Truly adore John Lithgow but should someone who is 6'4 be playing Winston Churchill?

This was her first mistake as Queen.  She only made four in her entire reign, IMO.

Charles and whutzername really tossed a big stone at that glass castle😂

"Unleashes her power play?" She literally lost that argument.

For a queen, she seemed to have very little actual power. But of course, as an American, I don't know how that monarchy crap works. 😂

Stuart's are the true totals of these Islands.

All about fooling the public with semantics to distract from real issues
