Watch this video from time to time. I love Shepard’s energy. So creative yet so mellow and not pretentious like most artists who make it big. Happy to see he’s still around and being paid good money to put up massive works all over the world.
Obey did the right thing 25 years ago when he decided to use the slogan "obey" and he elaborated his main logo\face stencil (the obey one). Elaborating a simple yet long lasting image is not easy. You have to be both skilled and lucky. He realized it and continued in using and repeating it for decades. So the obey lesson is.... Start correctly your project so it will last during years. Respect.
i remember in the 90's during my graff days this guy was destroying LA. i thought it was a crew of writers doing his work for him. my cousin even mailed him and he got free stickers and stencils!
"Take something make it seem important, make it seem powerful, use emotionally potent phrases, and images; to get peoples attention, to get people to indoctrinate them to feel like "wow this is big, this is bigger than me". " -Shepard Fairey
Shep is the man. Never got the dried wheat-paste out of my vehicle’s carpet after a mission in Baltimore. He was cool and low-key and I was acting like an ass telling everyone we met that that “this is the Andre the Giant guy!” I think he died a little inside and now, twenty-five years later, I’m dying inside thinking about it.
Loved his stuff forever....his heart and head are in the right place...you know a real baller when he's generous with his techniques and not threatened...seems like a nice dude too
I started seeing his Andre the Giant all over the place in San Diego in the mid-90s. Back then I was like...what is this and why is it everywhere? Who knew he would become so influential!
