On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. Pacific time, Delta Air Lines Flight 7 and Air Canada Flight 785 made contact on a taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport. The FAA says Delta 7 "was taxiing for departure when its left wingtip clipped the horizontal stabilizer" of Air Canada 785, which "was being towed when it stopped short of its gate." No injuries were reported. The FAA is investigating, and the FAA and the NTSB have been notified. No cause has been announced.

Delta 7 is an Airbus A350-900 (N512DN) that was preparing to depart for Tokyo Haneda. Air Canada 785 is a Boeing 777-200LR (C-FIVK) that had just arrived from Toronto, according to news reports.

This video pairs the real air traffic control audio from the morning with an animated map built from ADS-B track data. Up close, both aircraft are drawn to scale, so you can see how the wingtip met the tail.

WHAT YOU WILL HEAR
LAX South Ground gives Delta 7 Heavy its taxi instructions for runway 25R, Air Canada 785 asks for a "park and tow" to gate 69A, and Delta is told to give way to an Alaska flight. Then Delta tells ground control it must hold position. Ground asks whether it is waiting for the Air Canada or for a truck. An Air Canada crew reports they "just felt a shudder." A voice on the frequency reports "an issue with the wingtip," and a City Ops vehicle reports that "the wingtip of the Delta made contact with Air Canada 69 Alpha." Later, on the tower's emergency frequency, rescue and firefighting crews stand by, Delta shuts down its engines, reports 291 souls and 14 hours of fuel, and rescue crews report no leaks but "a clip on the wing, on your left wing." Only the calls involving Delta 7, Air Canada 785 and the airport rescue and operations units are included; all other traffic has been removed.

WHAT THE REPORTS SAY ABOUT THE AFTERMATH
Air Canada says there are no reported injuries and its aircraft will be taken out of service for inspection and repairs. Airport officials say the contact was on a taxiway, not a runway, and flights continue normally. (NBC Los Angeles)
Photos published by TMZ show a large gash in the Air Canada aircraft's tail. (KOMO) Simple Flying reports Delta's left winglet was torn off and lodged in the 777's stabilizer.
Air Canada cancelled AC786, the return flight to Toronto. Delta 7 operated with a replacement A350 and departed at 6:08 p.m., more than eight hours late, according to Simple Flying.
The news reports say Delta 7 carried 275 passengers and 15 crew; the crew's own call on the recording says 291 souls.
