Teachers are QUITTING, student behavior is getting worse, and educators across America are sounding the alarm about what is happening inside our schools!
In this Teacher Therapy reaction video, teachers share firsthand stories about Gen Alpha, student behavior, teacher burnout, lack of accountability, school discipline, uninvolved parents, administrative failures, grade inflation, and students facing little to no consequences for their actions.
One teacher says students can skip class, refuse assignments, disrupt lessons, and repeatedly break rules with few meaningful repercussions. Another explains why administration ultimately drove her out of teaching. Other educators describe students struggling even after lessons are gamified, notes are provided, accommodations are given, and teachers go above and beyond to help them succeed.
And then there's one of the biggest controversies in modern education: Are we actually hurting students by refusing to let them fail?
Teachers describe grading policies, retakes, credit recovery, minimum grades, missing assignments, and systems that can make it extremely difficult for students to experience the natural consequences of failing to do the work. One teacher puts it simply: we may be failing students by not allowing them to fail.
The consequences for teachers are becoming impossible to ignore. Educators describe overwhelming workloads, worsening student behavior, burnout, lack of administrative support, and feeling responsible for problems they cannot possibly solve alone.
As a former teacher who taught 4th through 8th grade in public, private, and charter schools, I can relate to each of these teachers!
What happened to accountability in schools?
Should students be allowed to fail when they refuse to do the work? Have schools gone too far in removing consequences? How much responsibility belongs to teachers, parents, administrators, and students themselves? And if teachers continue leaving the profession, what happens next?
Teachers, parents, administrators, and students, I especially want to hear what YOU are seeing.
👇 Do you think America's schools can turn this around, or has the system changed too much?
