I flew for 25 years and my vascular system broke down due to too many take offs and landings and the pressurisation and depressurisation.  And I watched in slow motion the deterioration of manners and respect from the passengers over the years.

I fly once a year US to Europe and as a passenger it is exhausting. I dont know how flight attendants can do this job full time. Highest respect to all flight attendants

I worked in the aviation business. The biggest mistake that people make when pursuing a career as a pilot or flight attendant, is  that they see the glamour and the travel benefits but never the down side. You must be away from home for  extended periods of time and you may not get to fly to the destinations of your choice, until you accumulate quite a few years of seniority. You must deal with different personality types  and  are required to basically be a waiter,   a social worker, a nurse, even a police officer and if you are not calm under pressure and don't project self confidence and maturity, this will be a very frustrating and unrewarding career. There are other jobs in the airline where you can work. Travel benefits are given to every employee. You should not limit yourself, to one specific position.

I liked how she said " sucked in". Because the glamour and materialism are really dangerous

As a professor of epidemiology and epidemiologic researcher with a specialization in pain, I long wanted to conduct a project in which we would follow a cohort of flight attendants over time to study musculoskeletal, psychological, and other health health effects of this profession. I did not expect cooperation from the airlines, nor did I get any. I have been very disappointed by this, since I think that data on the effects of this profession on multiple areas of health is a very important thing to understand. Perhaps the unions will be more cooperative. There are multiple exposures that are important: exposure to ionizing radiation, to alterations in circadian rhythm, long periods of standing in a confined environment, psychological pressures, and many others come to mind. It is an essential and important profession, and my impression is that the airlines lack policies that promote health.

I was a flight attendant for 8 years (4 of which long haul) based in London and I can completely relate to what you said in the video. As much as I loved the experience and seeing the world, it did take its toll on my physical and mental health on the long run. I started suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, felt exhausted and overly emotional most of the time, didn’t feel fulfilled and challenged enough. Now that I’m back in my hometown living a more regular life sometimes I miss those days and that excitement, but when I remember the downsides I know I made the right decision. It was an awesome job, but it comes a time when you just have to rethink your priorities and move on. 😉 Thanks for sharing 😊

Sleep is SO important. You listened to your body and did the right thing!❤

This video is 100% accurate! International flying is exhausting on your body! Little sleep and flying through several time zones really take its toll in a short amount of time. I flew for less than a year as an international flight attendant, and it took a very long time to recover mentally and physically.  I had to finish flying because I burst my eardrum, but I was already wanting to quit because of all the things mentioned in your video. Glad to hear you are building a life after flying!

As ex cabin crew I also notice huge decline in mental capacity after 3 years of flying. Basically I ve become stupid and limited

I have been a flight attendant with a different company based in Berlin (not in a fancy Dubai surrounding and maybe with less control) in my early 30s for a very short time and you just summed up all the reasons why i left. First and foremost that extreme physical exhaustion, the lack of energy, unhealthy lifestyle, limited capacity for devellopment because of lacking energy, repetetiveness and being caught in a bubble without many perspectives outside of it. Like you i was at a point wanting to have more control over when this lifestyle comes to an end as i wasnt so young any more anyway. I am extremely grateful for that time but knew my potential was elsewhere, so understand perfectly what you are saying here.

BRAVO, for NOT bashing Emirates! Appreciative of all the experience and benefits that the airline gave you. Emirates crew is one of the if not the best in the world. You are gorgeous and smart, I'm sure anyone would be honored to have you at their company.

“Know when to leave” I think that’s one of the best quotes I’ve heard so far! Hats off to you for making such a great change 😊

Very interesting. If it's hard on a frequent traveler that does nothing but eat, sleep and watch movies, I cannot imagine how much more taxing it is for the flight attendant, and pilots. Thank you for all you do for us travelers. Emirates flight attendants are some of the best in the industry, and very professional. I can see the passion in their eyes for what they do.

Girl, that is exactly what I preach, freedom! My only desire is to have my own business, never to work for someone else in a company or otherwise. I do not care how much I am being paid, whether 6 or 9 figures. I will always prefer to work for myself, not anyone else. That will never change. Thank you. The best to you.

Holy moly this has brought back so many memories…am an ex-emirates cabin crew..left 10 years ago and you just flooded my brain with all the memories and physical pain..100% true what you said..

"I felt a little bit burned out from meeting so many people, that didn't have a meaning in my life and weren't going to be a meaningful connection to me." This one hits so hard. I just started working as a flight attendant but I just can't fight the feeling that I'm always.. Like overwhelmed with interactions, so many people, so many dialogs. I started ignoring my friends and stopped really sharing what's going on with me, because I always feel stuffed up with everything. And I haven't even worked for a YEAR! It's only was 8 month.
Even thought I really enjoy aviation, I feel like this job is amazing, but this aspect.. Maybe I need to seek some professional help idn.
Anyway your video was amazing Thank you for sharing your story!

I’m the same. I want to constantly evolve. I’m currently a nurse and I want to be a cabin crew. Never traveled in my life, never left my home. I feel stagnant, I feel depressed, tired, emotionally and mentally. I Really want this Job. It got to a point where I feel like if nothing changes for me. I don’t want to exist anymore. The frustration of stagnation is constant and never ending. I hope you keep evolving and do things you really love.

This kind of job is similar to working on cruise ships.  It’s fun traveling for free, seeing different places and having fun but eventually you yearn for a more stable life.  Jesse, I admire your self awareness and knowing when it was time to make a change.

Wow, its like listening to my own thoughts... I resigned 4 months ago and am still recovering from the whole experience. I catch myself feeling guilty, that it is my fault I did not enjoy flying. This video helped me realize that it is just the reality of that job. I always used to say with Emirates the highs are very high, but the lows extremely low, and unfortunately, there was more of the latter. I am grateful for all that I've seen around the world and the people I've met along the way but overall I could go back in time I don't think I would do it again.

The challenges you outline are essentially the microcosm of corporate slavery and relatable for many of us in other professions too.
