"This is my hole! It was made for me!"

At least a dinner and a movie night first before you call me that...!!! >////_////<

You didn’t have to call me out like that on a public platform btw.

Your thumbnail is what my wife calls me

1:40 You can actually use the gameboy player with homebrew software, it even runs better than the official software

The Genesis EXT port is just a third controller port with opposite gender. It's handled in hardware the exact same way as the regular controller ports, just at a third memory location.

I think Serial Port 2 is more of a leftover from the GameCube dev kits.
It’s nothing new for dev kit consoles used for debugging to not differ all that much from standard retail versions.
But, in typical Nintendo fashion, they probably just thought, "We might as well leave it on there; who knows if it might come in handy for something someday?"

The long awaited sequel we've all been waiting for. Hell yeah! :_397Heeho:

I use an optical audio port for my soundbar too. Doesnt take up a hdmi port from the tv and no audio lag/forced input lag like like with bluetooth. Very nice hole :D

DRINK!!! Everytime you hear "HOLE"

there's nothing more I enjoy than filling a useless hole and giving it purpose

Don't worry, there are 3rd party adapters for the digital av port on the gamecube. They give crystal clear hdmi out.

3:07 when servicing a gamecube its used for boot diagnostics, one of the things would be for checking memory issues and telling you about them over it using a special diagnostic tool

Serial port 2 was not a dev port per se, but it was a PC based console debugging port used in the factory when testing game consoles after assembly. I work in Server Assembly for server farms, and I took it upon myself to study tech assembly history and evolution. I find it fascinating. So, like the gameboy test carts, but they connected the cube to a computer through port 2, not usual networking, but a regular PC tty console connection. Then they ran the tests from a command line, no mouse number key based menus, like we do in my job with command line python scripts testing the servers post-assembly when they fail the automated testing.

SPDIF/Optical Digital Audio was the only way at the time to reproduce digital surround sound such as AC3/Dolby Digital 5.1/6.1, DTS 5.1/6.1 or PCM Stereo 1:1.
While there were players that could convert the signal to 6-channel analog audio for output via RCA jacks, the quality varied significantly depending on the built-in DAC.
However, the port became obsolete with the advent of HDMI, as it was severely limited in terms of bandwidth.
Its bandwidth was barely sufficient for 48kHz PCM stereo, making it inadequate for audio formats like Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio, or DTS:X.
Nevertheless, in the era of LaserDisc and DVD, that port was the gold standard.

The COMMUNICATION PORT for Saturn is actually Serial port. Think of a serial communication device shown as COM in Windows.

I used almost all these holes, except for the SEGA stuff since this was a proper household

Funnily enough, both Serial Port 1 and 2 on a Gamecube both communicate over the EXI bus, essentially making them 2 extra weirdly shaped memory card slots. The Serial Port 2 is speculated to have been used for what is known as the Barnacle device, used internally at Nintendo to test pre-release versions of the IPL (system menu, etc.). Also relevant is a USB adapter used for debugging that has versions for SP2 or a standard memory card slot.

As you said, SP2 is pretty much only used for a specific mutant SD Gecko known as the SD2SP2.

This poor man would be mute if someone tied his hands.
