But this time, one wrong turn guided by GPS sends them deep into the Nevada wilderness. Stranded, miles from help, they face an ordeal that would put their lives at risk.

I'm a 65 year-old solo RV nomad from Nevada. I've traveled the route from Las Vegas to Oregon multiple times. Sadly, this is a cautionary tale of what not to do. They should have backed out of that road as soon as it turned to dirt. I know this from personal experience, having been given similar advice from a maps app. I jackknifed my trailer pretty badly in the process but I lived to tell the tale. Also, I don't venture into places my legs can't get me out of. I don't mean to pass judgement on these poor people, but if you're going to RV into unknown territory you must have a backup plan. As a fellow traveler, my heart goes out to them.

I am 77 yo with 2.6 million miles of driving under my seat belt, I don't drive very much anymore, but still got to enjoy 32k miles in 2025 in 40 states and 4 Canadian provinces. GPS is great, I use it all the time, but it's ONLY one tool - ALWAYS have multiple paper maps next to you and know exactly where you are and where you're going! Have survival gear for many days, food, water, warm clothes, raingear, extra gas, REAL spare tires, tools and .... good luck! You don't get to my age being careless!

To be honest it is shocking that people with these types of medical conditions undertook a journey like this. The madness of also continuing on a road that is failing away.

I learned early on to forget the GPS when in isolated areas. If I ever turn off a main road, I give myself 10 miles max. If I get even a bit of a gut feeling that something is off, I turn around and go back to the main road. And ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have a paper maps of everywhere I will be traveling with me. IF A ROAD TURNS TO GRAVEL OR DIRT, TURN AROUND IMMEDIATELY! I have spent all my 75 years in California, Utah, Arizona and Nevada and nothing beats a paper map with symbols that tell you exactly what to expect a turn-off road to look like. Turn back people if you are in the Western US. Plus I am a ,as nerd and love to just read maps when I am the passenger!

Never ever fully trust your GPS. As soon as you suspect something is not right turn back and if you cant turn back stay where you are. A lot of bad decisions here but we all make mistakes. RIP to Ronnie😢

The moment I could see the end of paved road would've stopped me from following that GPS route.
We were following GPS in the Scottish Highlands when the road narrowed to cross a creek. We turned around!

It just occurred to me that the word, "Stop," is so useful to say to ourselves in SO many situations. It can help us avoid scams, impulsive purchases, and bad decisions, keep us from losing out tempers, keep us from getting lost, etc. I never thought about how similar those situations all are when you think about it that way. Stop and think: Question. Be skeptical. Consider all options, pros & cons. Calm down before you act. Etc.

I'm a spanish woman from Spain, pasionate of nature and treking (not risky)
I know that my dream of travelling around the States Will never come true.
So, I'm getting to know all that I wanted throught your wanderful videos.
I'm learning so much..
Even thougth I don't see myself in one of a harsh situation, you never know.

Hey JR! I wondered when you were going to get to the tale of Ronnie and Beverly. We Nevadans are aware of how brutal our landscape is and we are not immune to it. I have had extremely close calls with this incredible environment myself.... including barely getting my entire family through a single track we had become lost upon in the Shoshones in an SUV. I honestly thought I had doomed us all and by the grace of luck we got out. This tale is so parallel to our story it breaks my heart. Nevada is rural beyond comprehension, almost lunar in how desolate and human-free the landscape is. You can make a single mistake and it could cost you everything since there is just not any help out there. But... it is also the most breathtaking, rugged, incredibly beautiful place on the planet and it will test you in ways you never thought you would overcome. Come see us out here sometime. We aren't far from Stagecoach 😉
