Myself and 3 others in my Club 7 years ago brought a 7 meter long stainless steel tube, cut it into 4 equal pieces. then using a grinder made a point on them and have had no issues at all since with bending or even snapping brolly spikes. Could never understand why the manufacturers did not supply Brollies with these types of spikes as standard. Especially with the Large ones of 55+ inches across.
Interesting, but the Gardner brolly spike is much better. Solid alloy, screw thread at tip, screw it in with Tommy-bar. Goes in anywhere and no hammering. Real game changer.
trouble with these fittings, who ever makes them, that fit on box legs ,is the spike is straight , which ,if its windy , and the brolly has a tilt ,then you still have a gap at bottom of brolly which is a recipe for disaster, always better to put spike in ground at an angle against the wind.
We made owes out of stainless steel the top 15 mil was reduced down so it could be hit to nock it in but to make it easier we had a top cap that dropped on top and you can use a sledgehammer to knock it in even in Ireland down side it disturbs the fish if you did that 😂
