You frequently find overlooked but necessary topics to address. Clearly the instructor as a career model vs those people just looking to make a buck. Many thanks.
Like that you mentioned how the position of the sun affects how you see the target. We used to keep a record of the range conditions. Writing things down helped me to remember how to adjust accordingly. Knowing how your ammunition performs, barrel lengths and weather and lighting conditions are important to know because they all change your shooting performance. Sight picture and body stance are what you can control the rest is fairly random so you have to know how to adjust to changing conditions. As always great info Paul. Glad to see that you're out there and doing well.
I have shot at long range including a course on "long range pistol marksmanship " but even with the range instructors at work no one was ever able to tell me to aim at the bottom edge of the target. We were basically just given ammo and had an imstructor call our splashes to make corrections. I kind of figured it out on my own, but thought I may have been hitting the ground in front of the target (the steel we were shooting at was sitting on the ground) and ricochetting into the steel. Nice to have the confirmation I was on the right track.
