I can't tell you how FRUSTRATING it is as an artist to get so little input on what a commissioner wants. I understand if you don't have the best idea or reference but ANYTHING is better than nothing, and reference/inspiration can literally be anything, from other characters to shows to movies or songs, it's all up there. Because let me tell you the less input you give the more often I have to stop my progress to check in with a client, wait for a response and then get back to work potentially days later, it really kills motivation and makes pieces like these take sometimes months to finish.

And if you dare pull crap like this guy and make the artist start from borderline scratch without propwr compensation they will legitimately hate you and yes WE WILL TALK ABOUT YOU

As a long time artist who does commissions, I can tell you without a doubt he had the artist make that whole piece to completion exactly how he wanted it, then changed his mind at the end to get a SECOND art piece for free. It's the oldest commission scam in the book.

"I put a lot of myself into this character!"
"This IS me toning it down!"
Lady, if the way you normally act is WORSE than how your character's acting, then you should consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky that anyone's even willing to put up with you, much less start a romantic relationship.

Pot is bad for doggos, I'm pretty sure nobody's arguing that; but brownies are made out of chocolate... chocolate. Chocolate is poison to dogs... and cats, rabbits, birds; actually, just assume that literally every pet is allergic to chocolate until you've found expressed verification that it is okay for that particular animal.

The artist in the story didn't even WANT him as a client from the beginning! He insisted praising her style. And she gave him sketches he approved. So, no, Drake, you are wrong in this case. To draw an existing character may be not such a big deal as to paint a mural. To DESIGN a character from poor description is a great deal. And even in video game development, where they want very good design, they ask you for many sketches and pick the best, then you show them the work to correct on the way... otherwise, if you finish the character and they suddenly want something different, it will COST them too much money and time. I'm talking big companies that can afford hundreds of artist on salary! They know it's a stupid way to go.

As a sculptor/ jeweler/artist you pay me for my time, materials, and experience. You use up any of these by being indecisive you still get charged. This is why I don’t really work with anyone too flaky or immature.

Using Starla and Muscle Man for the thumbnail isn't fair to them. Their relationship is leagues better then whatever necro an Not tiefling have.

Gonna love that part :

DM: "Some exotic races are like super rare"
OP: "Yeah,  also there are already three out of four who play a rare race"

NT: "I just put a lot of myself in this character"
DM: "Yes, putting stuff in this character seems to be the one thing you're good at"

The DM telling him to look at other second level spells to make his homebrew spell balanced is so reasonable. Usually in these stories only the narrator is reasonable.

I'm a commission artist myself, and I have to say, no, you do not completely re-do the work because at the end of the entire proccess the client decided he wanted something else, not for free.

You don't get to order a custom hamburger, and then at the end get to say "Actually, I changed my mind, I want a cheeseburger, throw it out and give me one for free."

Drake, I’ve gotta respectfully disagree with you on the art stuff. A lot of artists have clauses in their commission agreements that state that the client only gets so many free changes made to a piece, and that’s because there’s a point where if you correct an artist too much (like the commissioner in this story) you’re making them do much more labor than you’re actually paying them for. Combine this with the fact most artists dangerously lowball their prices already, and… Well, if the artist in this story didn’t charge the commissioner more than they initially agreed on, wether he was a friend or not, they are ripping themselves off.

My best guess when Drake ate a Dragon-Portioned “brownie”? When he did the CritCrab Collab

No matter how much I see it, I cringe at the word "Tortle" every time. It's like they asked a five-year-old for a name of a race.

Critcrab is going to be traumatized by this.

It's insane how the attempted fart name winds up being the LEAST inappropriate thing that this player does

I mean yes taking criticism of your art when you are making it for a client is important, however this wasn’t even a paying client. OP was doing it as a favor, had warned that the character wasn’t in their wheelhouse and it’s just straight up inconsiderate and entitled to have them redo the whole thing especially when OP had been checking in at every step of the process.

I had a player who hoarded loot, jane

Then another player, john, found a bunch of gold on his own (no one else would help him)

But knowing jane was gunna metagame and try to get the gold, he said hes shoving 300 gold coins up his butt, so she dosent notice

Jon fails the stealth, she sees him do it

Jane then tried to pickpocket him

Yes. Pickpocket the coins out of his butt. She failed the roll and got caught trying to reach in dudes butt.

It was cringe, but so funny. It was rick and morty dnd so obvs its kinda off the walls

The reason why I like this story a lot is because this isn’t a story of the OP being the savior who solves everything and everyone loves them. This one had an issue that the OP had with the art but apart from that it was mainly just the other characters. This makes this story far more believable than other stories in which it seems like OP just does everything and everyone else is just in awe. I liked this story apart from the foot parts. I gagged at that.

Drake made this story sound like it was being done by a bunch of cowboys around a campfire, attempting to play DnD.
