Every day, along Germany's railway lines, millions of trains can be seen turning green, allowing them to proceed. But what conditions must be met for this "approval"? Who operates the signals, and what actions are required?

This film describes the actions of the train dispatcher using the classic example of a mechanical signal box. While this may seem archaic, it contributes to a better understanding of signaling technology because the logic of even the most modern signal boxes is based on the principles of their mechanical predecessors.

This documentary (hopefully) won't offer any new insights for train dispatchers and their colleagues, and they may forgive the occasional simplification. However, perhaps the video will provide some interested outsiders with an insight into railway signaling technology and a certain "aha!" moment when their ICE train comes to a standstill in the middle of nowhere and the train crew asks for their understanding due to a points or signal malfunction...
