Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is an infamous video game. The game’s original release back in 2004 was marred with technical failings that caused a multitude of bugs and left buyers with a program that was prone to crashing. Despite these shortcomings, Bloodlines managed to earn a cult following that appreciated the game’s writing and ambition. That following is strong and numerous to this day, with plenty of other studios taking inspiration or even developing spiritual sequels to Troika’s game. What had been considered a disaster only 20 years ago was poignant enough to carve a large niche in today’s video game landscape. Will Bloodlines continue to influence games going forward? Or have a number of developers tried to use a popular brand to gain some cheap momentum for their own projects?
