The Marta del Castillo case, told in full: what happened on January 24, 2009, in Seville, why only one person has been convicted, and why her body has still not been found seventeen years later. Seventy-five minutes, with five voices in addition to the narrator.

Marta del Castillo was seventeen years old and lived with her parents and two sisters in a neighborhood in eastern Seville. On Saturday, January 24, 2009, in the mid-afternoon, she ended a Messenger conversation and went downstairs to talk to her ex-boyfriend, Miguel Carcaño. She never returned home. Her mother called her at nine, ten, and ten-thirty, but the phone was dead.

Twenty days later, Carcaño confessed. And that's where what makes this case different begins: the place he indicated was empty, and so was the next one. Version after version, each one launched a search—the Guadalquivir River, a landfill, some land in Camas, a property in La Rinconada—and none found anything. The search cost €616,319.27.

On January 13, 2012, the Provincial Court of Seville sentenced him to twenty years for murder and acquitted the other three defendants. A year later, the Supreme Court added a year and three months for a crime against the parents' moral integrity: not for killing her, but for not telling them where she was. The video recounts that afternoon hour by hour, the three years it took for the sentence to be handed down, and the fourteen that have passed since then.

WHAT ALMOST ALL COVERAGE GETS WRONG
• There was no jury trial: the case left that procedure on September 2, 2010, and was tried by three professional judges.

• The minor's trial was in March 2011, not 2009: the ruling itself is incorrect in its findings of fact and is corrected in paragraph 27.

• The sentence is not "21 years": it is twenty years from the Provincial Court plus one year and three months added by the Supreme Court in 2013.
• The then-minor and his mother admitted to a judge in 2022 that they lied, but the Provincial Court acquitted them of perjury on June 25, 2024: today they have no convictions for lying.

• Only one person has been convicted for the death of Marta del Castillo. The other three defendants have been definitively acquitted.

WHAT IS NOT MENTIONED
The victim was a minor: her body is not described, there are no forensic details, and nothing is included about the version of events from March 2009 that no court accepted as valid. Of the three acquitted, only the established facts are mentioned, nothing more, without any insinuations. The fourth accused was fifteen years old and is not named. And the video doesn't reveal Marta's whereabouts: nobody knows.
