There are two kinds of repentance. One is ego: you feel shame, you hide like Adam in the garden, and you say "I can't believe I did that," which really means you think you're better than your sin. That's pride, and it keeps you stuck. Real repentance isn't shocked by sin. It's shocked by mercy. It drags the sin into the light, grieves because God loves you and you turned away, and puts all its hope in Christ instead of in getting better. That's the repentance that actually changes a life.
