I took some of the elective courses taught by Prof. Ayoade as an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Social Sciences in the '90s. He was one of the brilliant minds of the faculty, and his research was accepted among his contemporaries from other institutions of learning because of his wealth of knowledge. Reviewing his books confirms that his research was based on equity and was thorough. I agreed with his submissions to the questions asked by Edmund. Great work, sir.

We can't say when Nigeria will break up. But with the current situation and direction of the country. It is inevitable. Day by day, Nigerians just see nigeria working for just a certain group of people. That is the first crack, and it is getting wider.

This is Edmund Obilo at his best! Edmund, you’re definitely the best journalist in Nigeria along with Charles Aniagolu of ARISETV. Much respect for asking the pertinent questions. We need more people like you in Nigeria. Bravo!!

Tribal and ethnic State and Nation that refuses to practice True Federalism. That’s the irony.

Let's divide ➗️ this overloaded British orchestrated contraption called Nigeria into minimum of 6-8 new countries just like ex-yugoslavia to save lives asap.  Respect 🙏 professor ✨️✌️🙏!
Respect 🙏 Baba 4 ur great 👍 + profound submission!!

Very good discourse!

Even at his old age, his thinking and perception of Igbo people is still shaped by warped anti-Igbo civil war propaganda. To thrive in Aba, you have to be really good at what you do, and they have never discriminated against anyone because of their ethnicity. The competition is only fierce since you will have a high concentration of savvy business people. Indeed, the saying that anti-Igbo hate is a cultural thing in yoruba part of the country is not a lie. He also forgets; for traders in his region, trading there is better and cheaper than trading in the east, because the seaport is located in Lagos -- another attempt to marginalise the Igbos, which has now had second-order effects -- making trading in the East a much more capital-intensive business activity, contributing to the lesser number of people who migrate there to trade. The Igbos who live there, though, have no other option than to trade where they live and bear the cost of having to ship everything from Lagos to the East, instead of making use of their own seaports.

When pressed on the emprical proofs of his claims, he could not find any.

Nigeria is a country with many ethnic nationalities who have land language and identity. The truth is that the ibo heartland is small and poor. With little opportunity. Despite the presence of valuable natural gas, iron ore and coal. Ibos should look inwards and start their civilization journey. They have no choice.

If Buhari's campaign was not successful in uniting all voters everywhere, Nigeria would have broken up. Buhari's charisma was the last chance of a united Nigeria to work. PDP is also the One Nigeria party. Once PDP also broke up, the last vestige of One Nigeria was deleted from existence.

That 2023 election was the beginning of the end of Nigeria. Buhari was gone and PDP began its downfall. 2027 will be the final nail in the coffin. The British, who used their last remaining power to force Nigerian unity, are weakening in influence. The elements that made One Nigeria possible and imperative are going away. Nigeria WILL breakup when all is said and done.

😢

Regional governments/adminstrations will be back.

Nigeria:catch 22

At this point, we can't compare Nigeria with America because America is an artificial fabrication ( ninety nine percent of Americans came from other continents) But in Nigeria, that regional identity is very strong and that is why Professor is dressed symbolically. An Imo man living in Ogun state is a citizen of that state, but not an indigen of Ogun. Why do think the British pulled out of the European union?

Nigeria no go break.
They said more than this in 1967.
Nigeria will only create more stable Autonomous Regions

Thank you for asking those difficult questions. One thing we know is that, in Nigeria, ethnic identity often takes precedence over national identity: you are Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Tiv, and so on.

What puzzles me is his claim that the Igbo do not allow people from other ethnic groups to establish businesses in Igboland. That is a false narrative.

As a PhD student in African History I have studied this topic fiercely, the reason I deduced why there are very few Hausas, Yorubas, Efiks and others trading in Igboland is that they find the Igbos to be extremely competitive and challenging to beat in capitalistic trading, Trade is about understanding the market & competition. The meat market in the whole south-east and almost the rest of Nigeria is almost exclusively reserved for the Northerners, mostly they understand where to source the live cows, goats and sheep to sell at competitive price, Igbos have tried and failed to outwit them in cow trade. The Igbos are not hostile to other tribes in their region and if you want to compete in trade there will be no quota system to ensure every Nigerian tribe is represented in every particular trade. Igbos are in every other region and can’t really afford to be hostile to others in their region.
Politics in Nigeria don’t favour Igbos in general, so they work extremely hard in trading to compensate and their success and display of it often breed jealousy from their host community tribe

This prof goofed on his treatise on the Igbos. It is very sad that he based his research on hear say and not on data generated from😢 the field via r😮esearch. Igbos do not prevent anybody from coming to Igbo land. It is sad that even a prof could  fall into the trap of supporting  this malicious sentiment against the Igbos.

He was not even able to defend his assertions when asked to do so by this moderator.

Igbos are easy going and accommodating. It is when some of their hosts become envious of their achievents  and start oppressing them that they react. They add value to their host communities and should even be appreciate😢.

Nigeria is not America. America is full of immigrants (except the Native Americans of course). Nigeria is made up of indegenous ethnicities. Stop comparing Nigeria to America. The Nigerian model can be seen in all European countries bar none; Asian etc. Only coutries created by imperialism have it like the US - Australia included. Please stop this nonesense discussion.

Totally disappointed with your understanding of the Igbos. At your age, I think saying the truth should form the basis for your thoughts

I respect most of Profs views .

But Ndi igbo did not declare war on Nigerian state . Gowon and Nigeria failed to implement the agreement in Aburi. Secondly his so called “Host” narrative is a Ronu narrative from Lagos. That’s a Lagos propaganda, Ndi igbo are very receptive and welcoming to host but the truth is that most Nigerians find it challenging to compete with Ndi igbo in the south east not like we are stopping anyone . Also another factor is that unlike other regions in Nigeria the South east lacks some of these amenities that attract outsiders to the region.

The prof pushed more of his tribal narrow views as that of others. No Nigerian is a guest anywhere , it’s the Ronus narrative U hear this narrative from.
