Over time, the overgrowth just kept moving closer and closer to the house, until the whole space was swallowed up.

If there is a lot of trash:
Just picking up 10 trash items a day, every day would be a 100 items in 10 days. Tackling it in that way would make the trash disappear in just a couple of weeks. The larger trash items, of course, would be difficult.
Mowing and cutting down the weeds and getting rid of the brambles and the branches on the trees would take a professional hand.
