Planned obsolescence an interesting way to save the planet.
I drive a Volvo 1800, the same car that holds the world record for the highest mileage, 3.2 million miles. The owners advice for reaching that mileage, change the oil every 4,000 miles.

Death by a thousand cuts. The government clearly want old cars off the road, and it's getting difficult finding a garage to work on older stuff now. I can't even find a gearbox specialist to work on a late 80s Vauxhall, and that's one of the simplest transmissions to do.

Lookup the oil that is specified in Germany for the same engine. Due to no speed limit on parts of the Autobahn the engines are worked harder and run hotter.

I remember there was an issue with the D series Astra. When a thicker oil than specified was used, the hydraulic tensioner took a second or two to get the tension on the chain right when first started.

There trying to ration the oil needed for older cars, so they won't be running any more

Cold weather starts are far worse for your engine than using a more viscous oil. A lot of people in the arctic circle use a thinner oil in winter or literally leave the car running 24 hours a day depending on how cold it gets.

In Thailand they use 5w40 in 1ZR-FBE, the 2018 toyota corolla 1.8, non hybrid. In europe they use 0w20

I've been using 10w 40 oil in my wifes Corolla here in Cork,Ireland,eventho Toyota recommends 5w 30. The car is 27 years old and runs very sweetly every day

Oil Geek did a full video on this, explaining the science behind why some engines (GM/Stelantis) fail.
It's not a black and white subject. Oil never is😂

Decades ago I do remember different oils suggested for different climates.

We always used Castrol GTX 20/50 in the 80s. Whilst many engines were push rod, though some were overhead cam, which didn't have top end issues

sometimes manufactures specify thicker oil in cars sold in germany because of greater speeds at autobahn.

Funny seeing this as today my Citroen C4 was recalled as timing chains are wearing quicker than they should so Citroen have changed the oil to 5W 30 and increased oil pump pressure. Looks like your bang on with this one.

Some say thin oil is good, some say thick oil is good. I think we can agree that changing the oil frequently and regularly is what matters most. Personally I think thin oil is probably fine, especially in Scotland. Love the channel.
