I don't blame you for not paying the thief money, they are scum of the earth.

The politicians make it easy for the thieves, NO PUNISHMENT

Your productions are normally very good but this piece is outstanding. The BBC or ITV would have milked this story footage to inflate to an hour. As to the £250; sod that! I fully agree. Good work!

Would anyone be surprised if the car thieves have a DVLA contact for paperwork?

This channel is so underrated in the abysmal YouTube algorithm. Informative, interesting content from a proper mechanic.

I CANNOT get my head around that fact that they refused to pass your details on to the original owner. Absolutely off the scale bonkers. Hopefully, someone who watches this will recognise the car and the original owner can get in touch for their belongings. What a sad rat hole of a lousy country we now live in.

The thing that really boils my piss, is when you see people on ebay or facebook selling V5s, often for Land Rovers, and then notify ebay AND the police, THEY DO NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lad it also pains me to see the system broken I shed a tear watching this. Don't feel bad you are on the right side of life

If the system was fixed, Insurance companies would make less money and we can't have that, can we?

Good on you for not entertaining the guy trying to get £250 off you. Absolute chancer🤣

The OBD2 Scanner Code Reader can read the cars ECU vin number.

I had a car stolen from a burglary, the car was taken and driven to Tilbury, put in a container and was shipped to Cyprus, from there it went to North Africa and sat in a car park for months. We had a visit from the Regional Crime Squad and was asked about the car. It appears they visited Cyprus and North Africa and found our car along with 1000's of others. He mentioned that the Local Police were even driving in a Range Rover that was stolen from the UK a year back.. (this was back in 2014) He also stated that they have found 7 other large car parks with cars being stripped for parts all stolen from the UK... My issue was the insurance companies, they were arguing over the recovery of the cars, how are they going to get these back?..who was to pay for recovery? --- the logistics of the shipping back?.. so they wrote the whole thing off. Millions of pounds written off.  Its us that paid for it..in so many ways..

100% they are bidding them up them self's,  the amount of "sold" cars that are relisted is unreal

I had one of the scariest encounters of my life 2 years ago, as car thieves tried to steal my golf. 3 scumbags couldn't get into the car, so they decided to break into the house at 3am to get the keys. They snapped the lock on the front door in seconds and gained entry; I was awake, and on the stairs, face-to-face with 3 men in the hallway. I was lucky; they decided to run. I installed posts after this incident, but couldn't sleep properly for weeks. Having nice things isn't always worth it.

You mentioned "destroy the V5c when you scrap a car," but it's more important to get a certificate of scrappage and send it to the DVLA. Then you get an acknowledgement from them, which you file away.

If that "scrapped" car gets resurrected, either as itself or as a clone, and the DVLA doesn't know, it'll be you getting the speeding fines and parking tickets.

This was so interesting and informative to watch.  Thanks for sharing this and, yes ,you did the right thing keeping your £250.  You were right.  Keep the videos coming.  Have a good evening.

Romania has a much stricter system since we have a huge problem with stolen cars.

Only  the police is allowed to give out and manufacture licence plates. Getting a plate requires the police to inspect your car VIN in all locations, and your engine serial number as well.

If anything doesn't match the paperwork you can't transfer ownership. Also both seller and buyer need to be present and provide photo ID to the police, and again seller's info needs to match what's on file.

That's how you have to do it in a low trust society.

I actually got a bit emotional with this one 🥺.

Love this channel. I've learned so much from watching your vids the past few months while I was looking to buy a second hand car. Last week I bought a well kept Toyota Yaris Verso, and I'm gonna take real good care of it. Now that I know how, thanks to you. I'm also helping a friend finding a car for her daughter. Steered her clear of buying a PureCrap the other day 😅👍.
Thank you for all the valuable info you put out here!
Cheers from a middle aged woman in Sweden  🤗🇸🇪

As a car spotter I immediately saw that is not a 2014 Yaris, it's a facelift. There once was a reason thiefs lost a hand when caught....

I honestly firmly believe in the concept that if you choose to operate outside of the law, then you should no longer be protected by it. Basically legalise punishing thieves - medievil style.
