Dialing in your specific filament, to your specific environment (i.e calibrating the pre-built profiles) as well as calibrating your print settings to your specific printer makes a massive difference as well. Particularly around print times.
My local Micheal's started stocking Creality PLA, so I have been buying them somewhat in bulk and have calibrated that specific filament for maximum consistency.

Reading my comment after posting: Take a shot every time I say "specific".

To print some challenging models, you need to think out of the bedplate.... meaning figures coming out of the bedplate, upside down, slanted, sideways... you name it! 😁

I'm not sure if it's available everywhere, but I'm in the US and I use Weld-On 16 for glueing PLA together. It bonds it by melting the plastic a little bit, so there's no weakness at the seam. Highly recommend!

you can also add plugs to each part to make the glueing part easier :)

You can add an alignment peg in some slicers when splitting the model into parts.
I haven't tried it, but I think that experimenting with elephant foot compensation amount could help with hiding the seam.
Tamiya Plastic Cement should work with HIPS (the same material a lot of wargaming minis are made from), but I had no luck in making it adhere to the build plate... Some PLA colors can be glued together with acetone - some colors are welded together immediately, on others it has zero effect.

i tend to do 0.16mm layer height especially on a bedslinger. i always find that 0.2 is a bit excessive since its alot higher risk of failing print

I literally just bonded two pieces of PLA with the Tamiya extra thin quick setting. There's a trick to it that the guy should have gone into more specifically, though he kinda mentions part of it (he uses it along the seam)

when first applying to a surface it almost looks like it just disappears. Keep doing it until you actually see something stay there. Do it on both surfaces. and/or also get cement in the cracks between parts which is how it says to use it on the bottle

Anyway, thanks for sharing :) I might just see if I can push that KS over the edge, the minis are certainly unique! And I know I've seen a similarly-themed miniature kickstarter before that I think succeeded, so I dunno why yours didn't take off.

I also bought Tamiya Quick Setting after watching that video, only to find the same thing 😅 If you're looking for model ideas, you could maybe build some proxies for 1490 Doom? It's model agnostic, but there's only really the official ones at the moment and they are pretty overpriced. Would be nice to see some alternatives that match the vibe, rather than just using random proxies.
