In this video, we recreate the confirmed shootdown of a Russian Su-35 Flanker-E by a Ukrainian F-16 in early July—the first confirmed F-16 air-to-air victory against a manned aircraft in the Russia-Ukraine War.

Using DCS World, we simulate the tactics believed to have enabled the engagement. An F-16 strike package acts as bait, drawing a patrolling Su-35 toward the front lines. Meanwhile, a pair of AIM-120 AMRAAM-equipped F-16s approach at low altitude with their radars silent, positioning for a surprise beyond-visual-range (BVR) attack.

Can the ambushing F-16s destroy the Su-35 before it can exploit its powerful IRBIS radar and launch superior R-77M or R-37M long-range missiles? Watch to see how this modern air combat scenario unfolds.
