初代十勝丸は四本煙突を持つ蒸気タービン船で、１９４８（昭和２３）年に就航しました。１９５４（昭和２９）年９月２６日に沈没しましたが、再就航し、１９７０（昭和４５）年３月３１日まで、青函連絡船の最後の蒸気船として活躍しました。TOKACHI-MARU the first was a steam turbine ship with four chimneys, and started the operation as a ferry boat at 1948. Although she sank at 26 Sep.1954, she was repaired again, and was operated as a last steamship on SEIKAN ferry until 31 March 1970.

私が国鉄職員でありましたので、撮影に訪れた際には、同じ国鉄職員の皆様に親切にしていただいた事が思い出されました。「消えていくものを残したい」と行動したことであり、たまたま、一般の人がやりにくい事が出来ただけではないかと思いました。
昭和の匂いがひしひしと伝わってきます。
できることならタイムスリップしたい。
もっとも、父は機関に近い3等船室でなく、冬でもすぐに海に飛び込めるデッキで震えていたそうですが(苦笑)。
