I'm glad someone sees the SMB3 influence throughout this game. As a big Mario 3 fan you have no idea how annoying it is to see people say that there's hardly any inspiration besides the Angry Sun in Desert Hills when discussing remade DS tracks in future games

Im so glad that someone finally figured the reference to Dark Land and Bowser Castle!

7:03 They're supposed to be based off the hills from the original Super Mario Bros. They also appear in the SNES Mario Circuit tracks.

All of the tracks appearing in Mario Kart World are on the unnamed island that game happens on.

The mansion not matching up exactly can be chalked up to the mansion just being an illusion created by the Boos

I think DK Pass and Summit both get their names by being sorta sequels to GCN DK Mountain, with how they're structured around ascending and then travelling back down a twisting mountian, with the former carrying over Mountain's rolling rocks hazard and the latter using its cannon barrel and sticking closer to its structure

I assume the paintings in 64 are essentially teleporters to real locations like the ones you can find in Odyssey.

7:00 yeah I mean in DKC there was that snow world "Gorilla Glacier" soo here's something...

the Mario Geo-guesser champion RETURNS

I love this whole mapping out concept because it gives us ideas on what an ultimate Mario Kart would be like.

Delfino Square can't take place on Isle Delfino, given how we see the entire island in Mario Sunshine. Given the name, statue, and climate, I think it might be a Pianta settlement in the Mushroom Kingdom.
8:30 Mario 64's paintings have been confirmed to be real locations in Odyssey and Galaxy 2. TTC really is just a big clock tower.
You should check out the Marioverse Project, they've been piecing together this kind of thing for over 7 years now!

Considering the two games are contemporaries, I want to think that Waluigi Pinball takes place in the same location as the Bowser Pinball table in Mario Party DS... in an arcade in Bowser's basement, and the racers are indeed minified.

5:00 the Monaco makes sense to me. It’s pretty much the only f1 track I can remember where they race alongside the ocean, or close enough that it’s visible. Also Monaco is by far the tightest f1 track, which fights the tight kart-racing inspired tracks of Mario kart.

I only recently learned that Desert Land is literally called Desert Hills in Mario Advance 4, which is like...wow DS Desert Hills truly IS just Desert Land.

My headcanon is that Peach builds lots of castles to throw Bowser off finding her, and then they just build racetracks around those castles to give them a different use.

When you eventually get to Super Circuit, pay attention to the weird amount of Paper Mario 64 references.  The ending cutscene features Paper Mario designs of enemies, most notably the Hammer Bro, which only has a blue helmet and no shoes in Paper Mario, there seem to be Star Haven Star NPCs falling onto the Rainbow Road,  (Which features Bowser's Flying Castle from that game)

There are also some small things, like Cheese Land being a desert with Little Mousers (Like Dry Dry Outpost), or there being a giant toy themed level (Shy Guy's Tox Box is one of the areas in Pm64)

At the end of Luigi's Mansion, the mansion straight up disappears, so the multiple mansions raced through or played outside or inside of in other games are NOT the original one but just mere copies probably made by King Boo specifically for the events held that just resemble the original mansion. No one can resist being slightly nice to Mario and making a track or court for his events

5:00 Monaco is one of the few good street circuits that actually takes lots of skill to drive due to narrow roads and leaves very small room for drivers error (these kind of tracks are often called “drivers tracks”) and  for the most part loved by the fans it means a lot to win as it is probably also F1s #1 crown jewel race due to its difficulty.

As a race fan I love the attention to details

I’ve always tried to give praise to Desert Hills for the fact that it has an SMB3 aesthetic with the Angry Sun, so I’m very disappointed that Mario Kart World has removed that aesthetic. At least Airship Fortress still resembles the airship levels.
