Jerry's Takes

246,760 views

“The Governor” in AMC’s The Walking Dead is one of the most memorable villains in TV history — but in the comics, he’s an entirely different monster. From Rick’s hand amputation to Michonne’s legendary revenge, here’s every brutal, unadapted moment AMC left on the cutting room floor. Same name… totally different villain.

Do you prefer your villains later and complex… or the kind you just love to hate? 🤔 Let me know below!

Comic governor is the definition of a monster

@roboticmonkeygaming2398 1 year ago

To be fair, even Kirkman admitted regret to taking Rick's hand and preferred the show changing that from his comic.

The governor looks like Danny Trejo. Imagine what It could have been like if he had the played the governor.

@Im_justgrant 1 year ago

They didn't cut off Rick's hand because Robert kirkman always said that he regretted it and so this was his chance to fix something that he thought was a mistake in the original comic

Him decapitating Herschel pissed me off so bad. I loved that character.

AMC’s portrayal of the Governor is personally one of my very favorite villains of all time. Masterfully written and David Morrissey did a phenomenal job. I would argue that his performance was critically underrated or at least not as appreciated as it should be. Easily on the short list of best tv villains of all time if you ask me

She sticks a spoon where the sun don't shine. Then uses that spoon on his eye.

I think hershels death in the comics really sells how evil the governor was in the comics.

Hershel threw his gun down and just completely resigned his fate knowing the governor had no intention of letting him live.

His final words “just let me die” embody what hes really saying to the governor.

Only the devil would be jealous of the world you’re creating.

Don’t forget Herschel kicked out Lee and Kenny out of his farm for murdering Shawn

6:32 it wasn't her sword, it was a glass shard from one of the broken aquariums with the walker heads.

I still remember reading Michonne’s torture of the Governor, it made me feel really gross in a way I’ve never felt before. It’s not that I felt bad for him, it was just such a visceral part. I love the show but the comics are something else.

In the comics, Penny is the governor's niece. I was hoping they were going to follow the comic by showing how he took on his brother's persona.

I was baffled when i read this years ago. I couldnt believe what i was reading/looking at in a comic book. The revenge she took wasn't nearly enough to punish him.

@mkwsoxfan 1 year ago

The governor in the comics is like evil wrapped in evil, disguised as a monster. I heard the page by page recap of the stories in the comic and how it just gets worse and more sadistic that I actually felt nauseous. Truly a vile character

I'm a big fan of the comic version of him but I really like what they did with David Morrissey. Not only a fantastic actor but his portrayal was fitting for the TV show and the tone that was already established on AMC. Looking back on it now if they would have gone as hard as they did in the comics it could have lessened the impact of Negan's introduction. Awesome video!
