Michael Jackson loved Weird Al so much. He even let Weird Al use the SAME sets for "Eat it" and "Fat" that MJ used for "Beat it" and "Bad".

The dance moves are so similar because MJ got his choreographer to work with Al.

You knew you were successful if Weird Al did a parody of your song. This is still hysterical

I saw him in concert, and he actually wears the fat suit when he does this song.

One of my favorite lines "my shadow weighs 42 pounds". LOL

His Madonna parody is called "Like a Surgeon." Madonna was partly involved during the writing process of the track. Reportedly, Madonna was walking with a friend in New York City when she wondered out loud when Yankovic would parody her 1984 hit "Like a Virgin" with "Like a Surgeon". The friend was a mutual acquaintance of Jay Levey, Yankovic's manager, and brought the idea up to him following the encounter.

It has been attributed to a host of artists, but according to Weird Al's site, it was Kurt Cobain who said that as an artist you KNOW you really made it when Weird Al does a parody of your song.

And it was because of Michael Jackson telling Weird Al "No" when he wanted to do a parody of "Black or white" (As "Snack all night") that Weird Al decided to do his Nirvana parody. He got on the phone with the staff of Saturday Night Live where Nirvana was set to play, got Kurt on the phone and asked for permission. Cobain asked if the parody was going to be about food straight away. And Al telling him that he wanted it to be about how difficult to understand Kurt's singing was and Kurt went "Yeah, that's a great idea, go for it!"

So when Nirvana got to see the musicvideo they were at first nervous "He's gonna tear us a new one!" but as soon as the music video started they were on the floor laughing at all the similarities to the original.

There's a shot-for-shot comparison between this and MJ's video, and Weird Al even reproduced the camera angles. :)

Now you are doing it right. 1. Watch the original. 2. Watch the Weird Al parody. Otherwise you miss at least half of his hilarity and genius

James Brown let Weird Al use his own band and backup singers for his parody of Living in America, Living With a Hernia. It's excellent.

I love how many old fat jokes are worked into this song, and the parodied details are insane. Weird Al never misses - Another One Rides the Bus, White and Nerdy, All About the Pentiums, Like a Surgeon, Foil, Party in the CIA, eBay, Tacky, Word Crimes, Bob, Smells Like Nirvana. Jump in the rabbit hole - your viewers will love you for it.

Ham on! Ham on whole wheat 😂 kills me every time.

fat was filmed on the exact set that MJ used in bad

I've heard Al talk about how difficult it was to find "large gentlemen who can dance". Looks like he did okay. This vid was quite revolutionary in its day. Long live Al!

Even though he’s not legally obligated to, Weird Al has the class to check in with every single artist to ask permission for a parody. And he always respects if the answer is no. Solid guy.

@JCourts2k23 1 year ago

Not only did Michael Jackson approved this parody, he let weird. Al use the same set from the Bad video

One of Weird Als iconic tracks and also one of the best. What a video! Yankovic was able to get permission from Michael Jackson to use the same subway set from "Bad" for the video.
