Cutting Off My Train to Make a Flutter Sleeve

This bride wanted to add a flutter sleeve to her gown BUT there is no extra fabric so we would have to source from her train. This is a RARE alteration since flutter sleeve take a lot of fabric and her dress has an intricate design that limits our fabric even more.

This alteration turned out amazing and the bride was happy to get some sleeves on her gown!

I know the focus was the sleaves and they are great. But the winner is how perfect the hem line is!

I kind of like the almost lace cap sleeve effect but the dress looks so much more elevated with sleeves!

Your videos are so helpful! I’ve altered several wedding dresses out of my home over the years, but don’t have anything formal set up like a shop. It’s incredibly helpful to see you workshop the various ways to fix people’s dresses and also to see how you talk about the money aspect! I still find it awkward to talk with brides about how much money it might cost so I’m taking lots of tips from your videos. Keep ‘em coming!!

I don’t follow wedding dress fashion trends, so maybe it’s more common than I know, but I’ve never seen a new dress in this style! It’s very late-Victorian/Edwardian, both with the train, the “profile” of the skirt and especially the lace trims of varying designs. Absolutely gorgeous!

There are definitely gainsand losses in the fabric choice for your dress. She wanted structure but that is definitely not the fabric for it. These flowy dresses are pretty but structure is not one of them. I'm shocked how much these delicate fabrics can be altered.
