In the warm weather, I got 380 miles from my Kia E-Niro, 6miles /kW

The amount of people driving every day with roof bars

It always intrigues me to see drivers hurtling up to a red light and slamming the brakes on at the last moment. The same with red brake lights in front of you, if you see them why not slow down. If you don't see them stop driving. 💀

I leased a 2018 GM Bolt for three years (basically a entry level electric car) and found that after a while I started using just the regenerative brakes for most of the time when I needed to brake.  In order to do that I had to be a lot more attentive to the driving.  This had the extra benefit of making me a safer driver and increasing the range of the vehicle.

I was playing this in the office today.. and the chap on the other side of the room thought I was listening to a Paul Daniel’s podcast 😄

im getting my first EV in 2 days so all these tips are very appriciated :)

Many of your points are valid for ICE cars.
On regen - I love regen for corners, the ability to vary regen and "slow" into a bend without having to hit the brakes is brilliant for a good stable (ok, usually fast) exit, and at this time of year with slippery roads the added braking effect is very useful. Currently driving an Enyaq, does a brilliant job for my 90% commuting miles and preheat in the winter is awesome.

On point about regen! Coasting is preserving energy way more than regen ever will.
Also my tip: if someone ahead of you is slower and you have no option to pass then slow down a bit so you close the gap slower. The more you drive at reduced speed the more energy you save and the time saved is minimal apart from extreme cases.

Very good point about turning regen off as it doesn’t effect efficiency but regen is just so useful in a busy city where you can just keep one pedal driving without having to tap dance on the brake every few seconds.
Ok might lose a bit in efficiency but regen makes driving soo much easier. I’ve got a Tesla Y which has pretty well weighted regen and I just love it. In my old ICE car I used to avoid cities as much as I could. Now  I just say “bring it on”😊.
Regen has a big part to play in my new appreciation of city driving.

Only a Yorkshireman is doing money saving on xmas eve

Seat heating. The rest perfect explained 👍

I own a 2017 Prius C Hybrid and had to drive a 2026 Hyundai Hybrid for 10 days. So glad to have my Prius back, and mainly due to having the B gear. I use it for emergency breaking situations or going down a steep grade. I used to be a Truck driver so it reminds me of the "Engine Brake."

Thanks for the excellent tips!  I am new to EV driving and getting myEV9 today!  Can’t wait !

I subscribed the channels just based on this single video. Don't need anything else to know that this guy knows exactly what he's talking about. Kinetic VS Potential energy... It all comes down to physics.
Well done!

Hi EVM, greetings from Oxford. Some good tips here, I think the main takeaway is ‘finesse’. I would add that your instruments can help, most cars can give you dynamic fuel consumption data on the instrument cluster at the press of a few controls, this gives useful feedback that can improve your driving style. I have a BMW i3, which also has a ‘swingometer’ on the drivers display - very useful.

When I started lessons in a HGV  I learnt a lot about driving economically.. Most drivers now just don't even think now they just go mad......

A clear and concise breakdown of how to drive economically. Every new EV owner should watch this. Thank you!

Thank you for producing this video. Totally makes sense.  I’m a new EV owner and often think about rolling instead of the car breaking and you have convinced me!  And  lots of other points were fantastic.

In winter i have warm clothes on so no problem lowering heat to 16-17 degrees when seat and steering wheel heat is on. Saves huge amounts of energy.

Great video, 100% agree.

I just got my first EV, a second hand Jaguar I-PACE.  I keep regen on low which keeps driving smooth and your point is a good one: high regen means the car slows down a lot rather abruptly and you then have to spend more energy getting back up to speed. Far better to anticipate earlier, lift off the accelerator pedal earlier and reduce speed gradually.
