Would you hunt elk with a 6.5 Creedmoor?

It's funny hearing all the people talk about how terrible the 6.5 CM is but thr 6.5x55 Swede has been taking animal up to moose, longer than any of the bottleneck cartridges most hunters use.

It’s all about shot placement

The 6.5 creedy is a lethal round no question about it.

Idiots that say the 6.5 creedmoor isn't lethal are the same idiots that say my recurve bow is better than a compound bow.

Savage 6.5 is $400 off right now. I’ll have go go for it now.

Please keep videos like this coming. They are straight to the point and very informative.

The 6.5 cm is a very capable round. My young daughter dropped an elk with one no problems.

You should ask the game animals that have been taken with the 6.5CM.  Oh, my bad! They are unable to respond.

I love my Ruger 6.5 CM.  Can't wait to get it suppressed

The reason the 6.5CM is lethal is because of the equation for kinetic energy.  Kinetic energy is equal to one-half of the object's mass multiplied by its velocity squared.  Since the 6.5CM is hauling serious ass downrange, it's got a LOT of kinetic energy, whether you're using a 129gr or a 143gr bullet.  Once you halve the mass, it's the difference between 64.5gr and 71.5gr.  Square the velocity and that 129gr bullet is delivering a hell of a lot of kinetic energy.  The primary differentiator is the bullet construction.  The big problem with the SST is that it expands much faster than the ELD-X, which is why it's a problematic round for elk.  The 143 has a better expansion profile.  If you could get an ELD-X in 129gr, with the same muzzle velocity as the SST, you'd have a brutally effective round for elk.  Alas, Hornady doesn't offer the ELD-X in anything but 143gr.

It all boils down to the math and the bullet's performance characteristics.

Just double lunged a nice 5x5 bull yesterday morning at 300 yards with 143 gr ELDX PRECISION HUNTER rounds. Dropped it in  tracks. For those whose say its too small of a round need to work on stalking into a good distance and proper shot placement. One bull, one cow, 2 bullets in the past month. Great elk caliber.

The .22lr is lethal if it hits the mark. The 6,5x55 Swedish is one of the most popular cartridges in scandinavia. It kills countless moose, brown bear, red deer and such each year. It requires that you hit the vitals but if the shooter does his job… the same goes for creedmore.

Nothing wrong with the 6.5 caliber but I’m not getting rid of my 7mm-08.

+ Peak! Can’t wait to try it out.

As a South African meat hunter, I have successfully and ethically hunted Bluewildebeest one of Africa's toughest animals and known as the poor man's buffelo with the 6.5 Creedmoor. Along with plenty other game. Shot placement is key.

l have always liked the 6.5 Greedmoor for flat shooting......Thank you Gregg......

The 6.5 JDJ in a 14 in TC Contender has been taking game since the early 80 s. Professional handgun hunters have taken all African plains game with this little 6.5 . The 6.5 CM is just fine, and as with any caliber , it boils down the shooter, bullet selection and placement. Reminds me of the age old argument between the 30 06 and the 270 , which are both fantastic .. great video

My grandson killed a 220lb eight point buck with his 6.5 so I would say it’s lethal

The  Hornady ballistic app works for Hornady ammo out to about 600 yards.
