Geoff would be delighted that you called out his bass run in that last song, because it was really hard to do!

Yay, I am so glad you took our collective advice to check out this VoicePlay medley! I only wish you'd had their captions up because it tells you what they're saying in Korean and the English translation, and when we, their Patrons, sang on the final song, This Is What It Sounds Like. It was a genius idea by Layne Stein (beatboxer extraordinaire and lovely baritone), who arranged this, because it fully embraces one of the most important messages of this movie: that we're stronger together. VoicePlay NEVER misses a chance to highlight details no one else would even think of. It's their unique perspective as much as their extreme talent that sets them apart. I loved that your real reaction was joyful tears, just like mine was! It shows your recognition that this group is like none other!  There wasn't a single thing I'd have arranged differently, or that I'd have sung differently, than the choices they made here. Perfection. And what a vocal powerhouse Grace is, huh?🤯 I really hope they collab with her again!

Oh, by the way, that ungodly low note by Geoff Castellucci? B0. Yeah, his range is B0 to A#5. He achieves those lowest notes through subharmonics, of which he is the master! (You should also check out his solo channel where he arranges all his stuff, sings with about 4 other "clones" of himself, does all the instrumentals, filming, producing, and editing!)
Eli Jacobson (short for Eliezer and pronounced Ellie), the bald tenor with the gorgeous rock inflection, massive range, and extreme vocal agility, is also a songwriter and arranger and usually handles all their lighting, as well as building some of their sets in Unreal Engine and CGI effects (not in this one, obviously! Other than the lighting!) Cesar De La Rosa is their newest member (he's been with them 5 years - but Voiceplay actually began in 1997 under the name 4:2:Five!) and Cesar is a versatile vocal chameleon, also with a massive range, and so much charm and sass you can't stop watching him! He's a GREAT actor too, but all of them are, as you will see if you get to some of their more theatrical videos!   For something fun, silly, beautiful, and entirely different from this one, check out their newest Medley Tangled featuring Layla Schillert. It's like going to a live theatrical performance! I hope this cements your journey into their world of extreme creativity. I am thoroughly enjoying it so far, and LOVE you as a reactor!💜💜💜

💜🎶💜They are just magic!!

I was one of the patron voices at 5:30 -- so cool of Layne to include us! VoicePlay always rocks. Thanks for reacting!

I’m not a fan of K-pop nor am I a fan of anime so I really resisted watching the movie. But I heard this medley and listened to it a few times and did go out to watch the movie and I’m glad I did.

This is such a great medley, but I always enjoy the medleys. I’m really glad I put on the closed captions, not only so I would understand what they were singing in Korean, but they were so fast I wasn’t always sure what I was hearing in English. I can barely listen that fast, I do not know how they can speak let alone sing that fast.

Grace was the perfect person to join them for this. She’s got a lot of sass just like Cesar,  so they were great together the two of them. My only regret is that I did not have the courage to send that to sound clip with all of the other people.

If you would like to hear Geoff singing as lead, I’d like to recommend Hellfire from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame movie. He really got to shine in that one. People usually recommend Oogie Boogie but I think Hellfire is a better demonstration of his skill because it’s not a character voice.

🤯🔥😍
Thanks 🧡

The "strings" that you heard were vocal bell tones tracked in the background.  VP loves their bell tones.  Lol

Layne is a genius arranger... (the beatboxer - he arranged this one).  This pretty much blew our socks off when it was released!

Grace was a fantastic choice for this - she has an incredible voice (and voice control).

They sang the Korean parts in Korean...plus they included us patrons in the "patron choir" on the last song.. they are sooo good to us.

So glad you reacted to another VP song - hoping for more - really enjoy your reactions!
⚘️🕊

Listening to the Queen in 5 minutes medley will offer more surprises around Geoff's voice (the bass). And it's really fun - they put together a whole story line for it... Loved your reaction, thanks! They use different production houses, but most often, they use Pattycake Productions, which belongs to Layne (the beatbox) and Tony (former VP baritone) Rules are there to be broken, but most often, whoever did the arrangement also did the video - concept/creative control and editing. Usually the lighting is done by Eli (the tenor). Geoff arranged Nothing Else Matters, Layne arranged this one.

That second delay between the video and the audio was a bit jarring.

Glad you enjoyed this one, it's up there among VP's best.

Thanks for more fantastic music from VoicePlay! VoicePlay are gifted when arranging medleys. Grace is wonderful; her first time guesting with VP. One of VoicePlay's many talents is inviting the perfect collaborator to sing with them then folding them seamlessly into the group. Grace finished 3rd on American Idol Season 19.
Layne's arrangement is fire. Layne is the beatboxer and a founding member of the original group (in 1997). His CGI "VoicePlay" soda can is fun too. They have some related merch in their store. When Geoff is giving us a B0 subharmonic, it's always Layne's doing. He made Geoff sing those background arpeggios (2.5 octaves in 3 bars) too. I wish that I had been brave and submitted a track for that patron choir in "This is What It Sounds Like." Regrets because Layne invited us and used everything patrons sent them! VP does their own closed captions and especially good to leave cc turned on as there is good info there. When they are singing in Korean, both the Korean and English translation are shown. Geoff previously arranged a short of "Golden" that VoicePlay released in August 2025. Geoff and Layne are the only founding members remaining in VP, but they have been singing together since 6th grade middle school choir. All of the group members names and more info can almost always be found in VP's video descriptions. They are very DIY, as you can read in the credits there.
From Layne's comments in the video description:
We were able to include our Patrons voices in the final chant at the end of this medley, which made the project incredibly special to us. If you haven't seen it, this movie is all about embracing who you are, facing your inner demons, and finding strength together—and getting to literally build that moment with our Patrons felt exactly right. If you’re not already a part of our Patreon community, consider joining us! And a huge thank you goes out to all of our amazing Patrons who participated!
VoicePlay premiered their 1st Disney medley in 6 years on Friday, Sept. 4th (Tangled).
You were speaking of his remarkable voice...bass singer, #GeoffCastellucci, premiered his latest solo music video (Hallelujah) yesterday. On his solo channel, Geoff sings bass, baritone, and tenor and layers his vocals while adding his own instrumentation. Hope that you check it out. Geoffrey has a performed 5 octave + 1 semitone vocal range, but you'll only hear the extremes with VoicePlay when Layne is arranging.
Looking forward to more VoicePlay (and hopefully Geoff solo) with you!

I admit I have seen the movie. The way they mixed all the songs together is insane and works so well! I am so blown away by what they are able to do, and I sincerely appreciate you sharing this. This is not something I would search out on my own, but was definitely something I needed to hear. Simply unbelievable 🤯🤯🤯🙏

6:55 yeah, I know right?!
It is a great movie, watched it with my oldest. It’s so much fun

I’m so glad to see you doing more VoicePlay 💛 Their medleys are always so amazingly put together. We really aren’t lying when we say you can’t pick a bad song from VoicePlay.

16:26 VoicePlay doesn’t feel like regular a cappella though, you should check out Dream on or seven nations army oooo or hoist the colors those have a very dramatic “dark” feel to them
💛💛💛

Enjoyed your reaction and love voiceplay. Thanks.

Sometimes I forget that this is only five people because it sounds so full. There's a special kind of magic that VoicePlay brings to each creation. They have an ability to respect the original and, yet, infuse something fresh. And their rhythms/timings are so intricate.

And they do everything without a big industry machine helping them since they are independent and usually take on multiple roles. Plus,  the way they select and really feature a guest artist to really highlight them is a treat.

Thanks, MEL for visiting the magic of VoicePlay again. You'll love Dragonborne Comes or Valhalla Calling as you'll see how they really go all-in to the genre. I still suggest the Halo Theme and playing the full outro to really get a feel for them as humans.

Feel free to ramble during VoicePlay's reaction cuz we all did the same thing when we saw this!! This is just such a great medley and I really glad to see you enjoyed it!!

Don't feel bad about not knowing their names yet, we understand it takes a little to get them down.  With all the features it also makes it a little hard too.

Voiceplay is really good at sharing the spotlight among the group. There are still so many songs to explore on Voiceplay page (and a few hidden gem not on their page). Don't forget about Geoff's Solo Channel (the bass singer)

They are absolutely brilliantly talented.  They do layer their voices from time to time and Layne, the beat boxer will frequently have multiple tracks.  Pre-Covid they were always on the road, using YouTube as promotions, to introduce themselves to a wider audience.  When the world shut down, they upped their production values into the stratosphere.  When they could go back out on the road, they opted to stay home.  Geoff, Layne, and Eli are all married with children and prefer to be mostly home.  They have done a few private, corporate gigs and one massive two evening concert with Chicago.
Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci.  He just released his version of Hallelujah.

Love your reactions!  However, WHERE WAS THE FREQUENCY EVAL?  I really missed that. Wanted to see the frequency on Geoff's low note. That analysis is something different and I really enjoyed it. It would also be interesting to see the frequency on those high notes that Eli, Cesar and Grace were hitting, and Layne's beatboxing. That child-like look of wonder in your eyes shows how much their hard work pays off!

There isn’t much more than can be said the those before me haven’t said but once again, welcome to the Voice Play world of talent. I’ve been awed by them for four or five years now. My family tell me I’m obsessed and they may be right. It amazes me that so much talent is found in one group and they still all like each other!  Layne, the beatboxer and Geoff, the bass have been friends since like 7th grade! Loved your reaction. Thank you
