Fun fact about this kapa haka team, they are juniors, full of people in between 13-18, most kapa haka teams you have seen are over 18

You have to react to Nga Puna O Waiorea 2024 nationals please 🗣️

Kapa haka teams follow a specific layout, outlined below:

*Optional: Waiata Tira*
To start, groups can sing a choral piece to relax and warm up. This performance does not earn points and can be sung a cappella or with a guitar. The focus is on blending voices harmoniously.

*1. Whakaeke*
Whakaeke means to make an entrance. It can include singing (waiata), haka, and calls (karanga), along with traditional weapons and instruments. This section allows for creativity and serves as a formal welcome, where teams introduce themselves and explain their connection to the local people through stories (pakiwaitara) and genealogy (whakapapa).

*2. Mōteatea*
Mōteatea refers to traditional chanted songs that tell the stories and feelings of our ancestors (tūpuna). There is no harmony or choreography. Performers express the meanings of the words through strong facial expressions and vocal emphasis.

*3. Waiata-ā-Ringa*
Waiata-ā-ringa, or action songs, are a modern addition to kapa haka, popular since World War I. These songs became vital to Māori performance from the 1930s onward.

*4. Poi*
Poi are small balls on strings swung by women. Traditionally, men (tāne) used poi to train their wrists for battle. Poi symbolize elements of nature, like water, birds, and insects.

*5. Haka*
Haka is a well-known part of Māori culture. It often addresses important social or political issues in the Māori world (te ao Māori) and challenges the status quo.

*6. Whakawātea*
Whakawātea is the last chance for each group (rōpū) to leave a lasting impression. They should express their identity and gratitude to the hosts before leaving the stage.

When watching a kapa haka performance, you will see this layout used frequently.

Their third item talks about their lineage and their ancestors and their achievements & how they are apart of them

Please  watch  Hata on thanda choir you'll never regret

The "haka stance," or Tū Tane (male stance), is a fundamental part of the Māori war dance (haka). It involves standing tall and firm, with a focused gaze and clenched fists, signifying strength and readiness. This stance is also known as Kia Mau, which translates to "to be alert" and "to hold strong". It's a challenge that tests both physical and mental strength, requiring participants to maintain the posture for a designated time.  At times the bounce  is noticable.
