Many creatures in NARUTO were inspired by Japanese yokai, mythology, and folklore.

In this video, I explain five of them, including Kurama, Shukaku, Matatabi, Gyuki, and the Ten-Tails.

Their connections go far beyond just their names and appearances. Their abilities, designs, and even parts of their stories are deeply connected to old Japanese legends.

What terrifying legend inspired Kurama?
What sad story is hidden behind Shukaku?
And what ancient Japanese god may have inspired the Ten-Tails?
