It's about fwiggen time, wight???

You might like this.  I worked with a guy who was as obsessed as I am with Mel Brooks movies.  We used to quote them to each other incessantly.  One day, I saw him at Costco in the middle of telling his wife a story.  I said loud enough for him to hear, " You'd do it for Randolph Scott".  Without hesitation, he stopped his story mid-sentence, put his hand over his heart, and repeated Randolph Scott!  Only then did he look around to see who had said it.  And of course, his wife looked at us as if we are the two biggest idiots in the world.  Which is not an unreasonable assumption.

Just FYI, "We don't need no stinking badges" is still a reference/parody in this movie. The origin is from a scene in a 1948 movie "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"

23:45 Randolph Scott was a legendary western actor from the 1940s to 60s.

I had recently started teaching in a rural new school in the South when BLAZING SADDLES came out. When I was in college in the 60s I was involved in the Civil Rights movement. I believe BLAZING SADDLES did more to end bigotry than any march or demonstration that I was ever in. I believe BLAZING SADDLES is now part of Hollywood history.

You deserve a like just for being one of the few to know Hedy Lamar and the only one I can remember who got the "killed more men than Cecil B. DeMille"... Also, don't miss Young Frankenstein, with Wilder and Kahn.  I think it's Brooks' best, though it would help if you watch (or at least read a plot summary of) the original 1930s Frankenstein.

The "they lose me after the bunker scene" joke gets me every time

R.I.P To Some Of The Actor's Who We're In This Movie, Still Miss You All

The closest thing we will ever experience to live action "Bugs Bunny."  "Isn't anybody gonna HELP that man?"

The line by Jim (Gene Wilder) to Bart ... "You know, morons.' was an on the spot improvisation and Cleavon's reaction is for real.

"The sheriff is a-near!" I was about 12 or 13 when I saw this for the first time, and that gag went on a few times too many for a VERY young child sitting a few rows behind me. The joke is that the bell rings and so no one in town hears what the old drunk is shouting. Well, this young kid knew exactly what the old drunk was trying to say, and he said out loud—QUITE loud—to his mom, "No, Mommy! He's saying the sheriff is a..." well, let's just say that little child didn't censor himself. And he got the biggest laugh of the whole movie auditorium. Ah, the 1970s, when you took your youngster to family-friendly fare like "Blazing Saddles." (Come to think of it, I was there with MY parents too!)

"THE SHERIFF IS NEAR !!!"

The cows always in the background was a joke about casting "cattle calls" for extras in films.

As a child of the 70's I was convinced I had a fifty fifty chance of dying by quicksand.

History of the World Part 1 is a must! Every Mel Brookes movie is a must watch, really. I mean, let's be honest here.

The "Yes" and "No" on the ox's ass, as you put it, is a reference to what trucking companies used to print on the back of trailers to indicate where cars could pass them...yes on the left, no on the right.

"What does that mean?"

Mr Goodbar comes from a Hershey candy bar (milk chocolate & peanuts) started in 1925, but was also part of the title of a thriller with Diane Keaton - Looking For Mr Goodbar.

10:20
The biggest star of the whole cast.
The one and only Count Basie and his band.

24:48 I think that line was originally from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre." I've seen it referenced in a couple of different movies like "UHF" with Weird Al Yankovic.

Mel brooks doesnt break the forth wall, he isnt meta, he never built a 4th wall to break.
