I was born in the BX NYC 56 years ago, grew up 2 blocks from Yankee Stadium and later moved to Wyatt and Devoe by Tremont,I gotta say the 70's was fun 80's was great until crack arrived that's what fucked everything up. The Government. Everything went downhill from there.

The one place you should never visit in New York is your mailbox. The most frightening bill after bill, and sometimes with a a grim reaper known as 'eviction'. Forclosure notices never let you sleep. It is by far the most frightening place in New York. Sometimes, it disguises itself... In the form of a mailbox, and the most frightening of all.... the front door mail slot! Many have never recovered or have ever been seen again, with this most ultimatum of a medium called mail....

NYC been gentrified he's talking about the pay-phone era‼️💯

Whenever I go out of state or
Out  or country . I usually go to the police station and ask where I shouldn’t go. Where is it? Dangerous. They give me a list and I go to all of the places on the list photographing hanging out talking to people. I have no problem.

I grew up in Brownsville during the 70s. It was awful.

At 8:05 - you have the Manhattan East 96th Street divide in reverse.  Above 96th is East Harlem while below 96th is the wealthier Upper East Side.
Kindly correct.

I've lived here a lifetime, and no place is like NYC,no matter what happens, neighhoods have made a come back, and this narrator makes it sound like an amusing announcement, every state has areas that aren't great, don't trash NYC

Well they didn’t mention the hole which is a section of ozone park/city line/lindenwood.  Thats as creepy as it gets.  That should top this list.  They dont even have a sewer system there.  It was a mafia burial ground.  God knows how many bodies were put there.  It floods when it rains.  Creepy as fuck.  I honestly haven’t seen an area more creepy than far rockaway and edgemere.  I’m a delivery driver and i work at night.  If your looking to disappear or get murdered… go to far rockaway, edgemere, Scary as fuck over there.  I swear it looks like a third world country in some sections.    Far rockaway, edgemere.  Roosevelt island is creepy as fuck, jamaica queens around 99th avenue, south jamaica projects creepy as fuck.  Theres a lot left out here, this narrator is right, these are tourists locations, no new yorker gives a shit about that abandoned island in the river.  Hes right… tell me you’re not from new York without telling me your not from new york.  I definitely agree with hunts point… scary around there.

Hunts point is not the open prostitution area it once was. This video is about 30 years late to the party

1:49 ENY contains 3 sections Canarsie [indigenous Tribe name that had all of ENY], Brownsville & Spring Creek, my home as of 2025, now 2026 it has become gentrified with all those who can no longer afford living on the island of Manhattan.  It was a beautiful location before all the construction of many high-rise apt buildings, like Manhattan was most ppl here now are not NYers and have brought their cultures with them causing separation of people which contributes to crime.

The 75th Precinct has been and is known for the myriads of crimes here in ENY, as well as any decay of the communities.  Its corrupt, so if ever you are in ENY and need help from a cop, try a different precinct other than the 75th.  Queens is also right next door, Long Island isn't to far either.

Tell me you're not from New York without telling me you're not from New York

I was raised in East New York and went to high school and college.

I also married and had my 4 children,

I LOVE BROOKLYN.

New Yorker here!
There are good people in all these places trying to do the best by themselves and their children!

He said Mott Haven was served by the 41 precinct. The 41 is actually in the Longwood area which is farther north. The 41 was famous as "Fort Apache" and made more so due to the movie. The movie was a distortion. Mott Haven actually ends around 149th st. It is neighborhood north of the "South Bronx". The South Bronx is actually a small area across the river from Manhattan. People use the term to describe areas that are mostly minority.

Hart Island housed patients who suffered and died from Tuberculosis. It was also the burial site of all who passed from COVID 19.  It was also a quarantine station in 1870 for the Yellow fever epidemic and I also want to believe that the people who suffered from the Spanish flu of 1918 are buried there since the hospital on the island was built for the infectious diseases of that time. I heard so many things about hart island and most of it was bad. I was born and raised in NYC and this was a place I wanted to explore. but after I heard it housed crazy people and infected people, I said no.

I think this AI video is talking about the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Also the 88 pct on Clarkson avenue in Brooklyn was considered a jungle .
I worked in Harlem in the 80s for the NYC sanitation and it looked like  Europe during World War Two.
I remember a public school building totally abandoned .
I don’t know if a middle class family could afford the rent there now and definatly could not buy a house.
I also notice that a few areas shown had cars from the 70s and 60s

That's not happening all over the city today  , maybe 15 / 20 years ago  , I live in brooklyn and it's becoming expensive in the neighborhood  , which is turning brooklyn  / queens  into a different vibrant feeling to live , now if you live in the projects and don't no anyone  , and don't have permission to enter  , that's a different story  , the Bronx Is definitely the worst place to live in the city of 5 boros and tri state areas  , shoot  , don't ever visit certain suburbs of NY is wild too.

Far Rockaway would be fair game if you’re talking about stuck in the 90’s

My Dad had a dry cleaning store corner of Pleasant Ave and 116 Street over 30 years.  Always felt very safe there, the residents were all good folks.  The other 3 corners were Balsamo Funeral Home, Benjamin Franklin High School, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Rectory.

Loved the vibe of this video. Small towns like these always look normal at first but when you research them for videos you realize there are so many unusual stories behind them.
