When suspect Murray Dixon is proven impotent and cleared of the first murder, Commander Clare Blake realizes that convicted killer James Lampton—with whom she has resumed a dangerous personal relationship—is using prison helpline letters and auto-asphyxiation techniques to commit new, timed murders while manufacturing rock-solid alibis. In a high-stakes confrontation at his apartment, Blake wears a hidden camera and trick wire, tricking Lampton into revealing a non-public crime scene detail (the burnt chicken in the oven). Armed with his confession, she arrests him, saving her career and securing a conviction despite ongoing internal affairs inquiries into her team.
