to be  fair De Galle wasn't shy when it came to stiffing his fellow countrymen when it came to playing power games

My Grandfather was number 1 squadron 2nd SAS Billy Lavill, he was with Roy Farren on the Chatillon raid operation Wallace
The raid was concidered one of the most successful sorties ever carried out by the SAS.. 60 SAS  atacked the Chatillon garrison in some 7.5 hours of street fighting

Ils sont fous ces romains … ces SAS … 😁🥸 nicely played with the Asterix/Obelix references. Ty as always, great info. Much appreciated.

Just reading SAS With the Marquis (sorry) -cracking read. Some brilliant stories and the way the SAS and Marquis operated adhoc but made operations work,in occupied territory, is so impressive.

I think you two should do a series on the LRDG, as the SAS may well have never been as successful without the LRDG. Why not go right back to the mad stuff Ralph Bagnold and his pals got up to back in the 1930’s.

Thank you Tom Petch, Al Murray and James Holland.

Thanks

Great show. Always love the sneaky stuff of war.

As usual, completely fascinating. Interestingly, preceding the Boer War, Colonel Buller in the Zulu War with his Frontier Light Horse that had 30 Boers attached started, longe range reconnaissance and raids.

I've really been enjoying all your Walking the Ground videos, and this was great to listen to. I've just watched all of Series 2 of "SAS - Rogue Heroes", and loved it.
But it's like "Sharpe" for the 2020's...
There's a little sprinkle of history, but nothing more.
Rogue Heroes is 20-40 guys running around Europe on a great little romp.

I love hearing real history, and I'd LOVE to see a full budget mega series on the SAS, with Hollywood budget, but British control, to tell a bigger, truer story.
There's no stories as fascinating, complicated and incredible as real history.

I hope Rogue Heroes will bring a new audience into the wonderful dash and daring stories that have shaped me, in the way that classic war movies have shaped Al Murray & James Holland...
And from dash and daring, to looking at what was actually real.

This one comes with the crappy ads? I'm off to find the ad free version.
